Where are the bookmarks in Opera 18?

yeah - I can import bookmarks ...
I started the launcher with the additional parameters, but no UI came up. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I killed the 3 idling processes. Then I launched Opera-Chromium again (normal, without command line switch) just to see that most of my previous settings are gone and my speedial is riddled with the default advertisement stuff, facebook etc that I don't use. OK, that was easy to kill.
Then I typed in the bookmark-importer URL and got the option to import to
QAB, I clicked it and after tedious confirmation orgy for each of my folders they really were there. After some sorting
QAB became somewhat useful, (I should have sorted them into one folder in O12 before, it would have been easier because there is a decent bookmarks manager) but then I saw the drawbacks:
I can't keep 2 folders open at the same time, I can't stick to a certain "scroll" position in a folder, I can't select multiple bookmarks to open at the same time, I can't associate keyboard shortcuts, I don't see when I have last accessed the bookmark (which was very handy for checking if several sites are still working) etc. pp.In the end it is still a long way to go until the new system becomes really usable. I wonder what takes so long to implement it - it is more than half a year now - and according to the claims of several employees the Desktop team is now bigger than ever ...

Replace the names and the products and you see basically the situation we have here with Chromium-Opera ... -

Indeed. It would sure save a lot of hot-air, about why haven't they done what they promised, when they did it long ago. The emphasis is mine:

But we understand that removing bookmarks entirely for the people who actively use them is a big change, so we are going to build bookmarking functionality as a priority.
I can't give you a date, and it won't be a clone of Opera 12, but I wanted to tell you that we are listening to you, and that I realize that not having bookmarks as people are used to makes it harder to switch to Opera, whether you are coming from Opera 12, or from any other browser.
Then, on August 14th, when the Bookmarks API had been implemented and the Quick Access Bar was first available:
Originally posted by "Helge Gjølme":
If you have missed bookmarks or bookmarklets, you can start playing with the Quick Access Bar now. Enable the bar in opera:flags, and then enable the feature in opera:settings under "User Interface". Now you can drag and drop pages to the Quick Access Bar for easy access, or add new pages by simply pressing the plus button. Right clicking allows you to add folders, remove entries etc.
This is the first iteration; QAB will be further developed in future releases to allow nicknames, and search through bookmarks by keywords from the addressbar. Note: Right-click to manage QAB is not yet implemented on Windows.
The Quick Access Bar is built upon the newly-implemented Bookmarks API, so you can get extensions to interact with it. For example, you can download a bookmarks menu extension and then disable the QAB from the interface to save space.
Several improvements were made since then to the QAB.

Not to mention that—as Pesala quoted in the post above this one—bookmarking functionality is allegedly a priority. Technically they have implemented some form of "bookmarking functionality", but if that was the intended meaning it's doublespeak territory. The logical conclusion there would be that we won't get a panel. That isn't great news either, but at least it wouldn't ultimately remove any functionality.

I too have just found that there is no Bookmark Tab in Opera 18 or 19. The first thing I looked for.
In effect Bookmarks have been replaced by a clumsy cumbersome bookmark bar. Useless for anything over 50 or so bookmarks.
Having read all the posts above and tried all the suggestion I am going back to Opera 12.6 for productivity reasons.Getting rid of the Bookmarks tab will do irreparable damage to the Opera user base which will migrate to Chrome (which can manage a Imported Bookmarks Tab) or Firefox. Can not believe the developers would get rid of a prime productivity tool.

Sorry, but you cannot sell Zotero to me. I am already fairly happy with the Bookmarks Bar in Opera 18 — with a few more improvements it will be enough. I am not sure what to do about notes yet. Mostly I use notes for boiler-plate text like this at the moment.
 Install Opera on an encrypted drive using the USB Installation option. This will create your Opera profile in the installation folder on the encrypted drive. Then your mail and all sensitive data will also be on the encrypted drive.
I wouldn't consider any other system as properly secure. Opera contains a lot of personal information — contact details, email correspondence, passwords, etc., which will be very useful to anyone who steals your PC. Never mind hiding stuff from your family or friends — thieves will do you a lot more harm if they get hold of this information.

The "Zotero" research tool has never worked in Opera 12 or prior, but now works in Opera 18+, using the "Zotero Connector" Chrome extension. To use Zotero, first download Zotero Standalone from zotero.org. Then download the Zotero Connector from the Chrome Web Store. Prior to visiting the Chrome Web Store, you should install the Download Chrome Extensions extension from Opera add-ons.
Zotero automatically senses content in your web browser, allowing you to add this content to your personal library with a single click. Zotero collects all your research in a single, searchable interface. You can add links to web pages (bookmarks), snapshots of web pages, your notes, document files from Microsoft Office, Open Office, or Libre Office, PDFs, images, audio and video files, and really anything else. Zotero automatically indexes the full-text content of your library, enabling you to find exactly what you're looking for with just a few keystrokes. You can sync your Zotero data among different browsers and computers (such as between Opera 18+ and Firefox). You can also store your Zotero data on the Zotero servers....
You might consider putting the full information over in the Helpful Extras to customize Opera 18/19 (Mostly 19) thread in the Opera for Windows forum... it's becoming a good repository of useful tricks and software for the New Opera versions.

Before posting please educate yourself in relation to Opera's new browser. V.18 is capable of far more that v.15 and I suspect your 5 or 10 minutes with the new browser has given you the wrong idea. I'm not going to fill you in on what you're missing. You can do that by reading the developers' blogs.

Please, do you really think that the Opera link web page is a solution? I think that it is something like 8 years or more that I use Opera. I find really frustrating that Opera Link has not yet been implemented in the interface of new version browsers. It is something like 6 months or more that bookmarks don't work properly. I think I'll switch to another browser if they are not going to fix it in a reasonable time. And I am really sad about this, because I really like Opera.

I must be blind, dumb, or stupid cause I don't see any reference anywhere to a _Quick access bar_ on Opera 18 that I just downloaded minutes ago. Just a stash that has no way to load bookmarks into.
Why release this junk? Who doesn't use bookmarks? Even a quick access bar would not work for my mom who has no organization skills and bookmarks her pages into one big folder.

Your mom would be better off using the Stash, which has a search field.

There is no bookmarks toolbar offered to me when I import. I just downloaded Opera 18 today.

You've been up for too many days high on YOUR stash, twwekin on 27000 blog posts, my friend of the devil.
How is she going to import them to the _stash_ ? -

The real problem is that by using Opera 10 some years ago, when it WAS the best browser, locked me into its favorites in the first place. No browser can import from Opera, and Opera 12.16 mangles the HTML export of the favorites, so not only do sub-foldlers become top-level folders, many folders just disappear and their contents mingle randomly at the top-level. And I am only guessing that no links were lost that way...
So to move to another browser becomes a real pain when you have 1000 links.

I've had no problem exporting my bookmarks and sub-folders over to Firefox. The only problem is having to sort them manually. http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sort-bookmarks-quickly-find-ones-you-want

Use the Firefox addon Auto-Sort Bookmarks
