I too have just found that there is no Bookmark Tab in Opera 18 or 19. The first thing I looked for.
In effect Bookmarks have been replaced by a clumsy cumbersome bookmark bar. Useless for anything over 50 or so bookmarks.
Having read all the posts above and tried all the suggestion I am going back to Opera 12.6 for productivity reasons.

Getting rid of the Bookmarks tab will do irreparable damage to the Opera user base which will migrate to Chrome (which can manage a Imported Bookmarks Tab) or Firefox. Can not believe the developers would get rid of a prime productivity tool.

Sorry, but you cannot sell Zotero to me. I am already fairly happy with the Bookmarks Bar in Opera 18 — with a few more improvements it will be enough. I am not sure what to do about notes yet. Mostly I use notes for boiler-plate text like this at the moment.

:idea: Install Opera on an encrypted drive using the USB Installation option. This will create your Opera profile in the installation folder on the encrypted drive. Then your mail and all sensitive data will also be on the encrypted drive.

I wouldn't consider any other system as properly secure. Opera contains a lot of personal information — contact details, email correspondence, passwords, etc., which will be very useful to anyone who steals your PC. Never mind hiding stuff from your family or friends — thieves will do you a lot more harm if they get hold of this information.

Just go bk to opera 12.50 and pretend all others do NOT exist thats what i did i will never try upgrading to the new opera they actually concider a browser everything that was great with it is now gone and creators just shrug there shoulders over it :yikes: i concidered everything newer dead long ago Opera :rip: you will be missed

Before posting please educate yourself in relation to Opera's new browser. V.18 is capable of far more that v.15 and I suspect your 5 or 10 minutes with the new browser has given you the wrong idea. I'm not going to fill you in on what you're missing. You can do that by reading the developers' blogs.

Please, do you really think that the Opera link web page is a solution? I think that it is something like 8 years or more that I use Opera. I find really frustrating that Opera Link has not yet been implemented in the interface of new version browsers. It is something like 6 months or more that bookmarks don't work properly. I think I'll switch to another browser if they are not going to fix it in a reasonable time. And I am really sad about this, because I really like Opera.

I must be blind, dumb, or stupid cause I don't see any reference anywhere to a _Quick access bar_ on Opera 18 that I just downloaded minutes ago. Just a stash that has no way to load bookmarks into.

Why release this junk? Who doesn't use bookmarks? Even a quick access bar would not work for my mom who has no organization skills and bookmarks her pages into one big folder.

The real problem is that by using Opera 10 some years ago, when it WAS the best browser, locked me into its favorites in the first place. No browser can import from Opera, and Opera 12.16 mangles the HTML export of the favorites, so not only do sub-foldlers become top-level folders, many folders just disappear and their contents mingle randomly at the top-level. And I am only guessing that no links were lost that way...

So to move to another browser becomes a real pain when you have 1000 links.

Good question - where are the bookmarks?

How do I import bookmarks if there is not prior Opera installation?

After reading this thread, it appears that I am to intuit that first I'm to install Google Chrome, import my bookmarks to them, export them to something else, and then import to Opera from Chrome. I went to Opera to avoid Chrome in the first place! ANd then I discover that Opera apparently does not support frames, whcih is kind of critical when the CAD software "Help" files require them. WHich was one of the reasons I was attempting to go back to Opera after all these years - I need to use those help files!

As for importing bookmakes (some how) and then sorting them manually.... if I only had a dozen or so, it might be viable. But I have more than a dozen bookmarks, the html file is 738K, and the toolbar starts with 8 buttons for the top level on the Bookmarks toolbar.

I wanted to get Opera up and running so I could get back to work. I already have enough non-sequitor "instructions" which make no sense, I didn't need another layer of nurdling cordwainers prior to deplenrating the nurfor trunion dingle arms.

If you can figure out the first bit, sorting them is easy enough.

I would not bother with Opera 18, but just install Opera 11.64 or 12.16, which can import your bookmarks from other browsers.

I agree rilef, this is currently a big mess. The directions are difficult to find, complicated, Opera even warns anything could happen, and it's ridiculous there is just not some simple way to create & store bookmarks. I also wonder where the hundreds of bookmarks I had in Opera previously are, and if they can be "re-imported" back, if there was an importer, that imported bookmarks...
Not being a full on computer geek, I am not willing to jump through a whole lot of complicated, confusing hoops, potentially harmful to other aspects, especially when there's not even unanimous agreement as to how effective a workaround it actually is. By removing many of the most basic functions of a browser, including this one, without communicating why & what is happening, and when changes will be coming, and if they'll be returned, the developers may be left with few users left to make use of their efforts....
