Why I am deleting Opera after downloading it a few minutes ago...

I just wanted to make known why I am deleting Opera after downloading not more than 20 minutes ago.
There is no way to set tabs to open to a specific page every time I open a new tab. When I open a new tab I want the act of opening the tab to automatically open directly to the page I want to be. I don't want it to open first to some mysterious online intermediary page where I provide Opera with a list of the favorite places I go on the internet. I have my own offline page for that. I'm not going to open a new browser window every time I want to get to that page or perform two clicks instead of one.
Beyond all that, there is no reason why someone shouldn't be able to specify what page a new tab opens to. I can do it in Safari and Firefox. Why does Opera need control of that? Why is Opera not allowing customization here? This is what drove me away from Google. They tried to channel me into certain behaviors. I don't want to see only your selection of new tab preferences every time I open a new tab.
I understand Opera provides a free service and I appreciate that but in this day and age where internet companies try to obtain and control information under the guise of "making it more convenient", I'll pass.
I really like Opera and was looking forward to faster surfing (which it no doubt provides) and since Safari has be acting up lately for me, but this is a deal breaker.

Well I've used Firefox recently and as far as I can tell the option to set a new tabs page has been removed and you only get their 'Top Sites' which is a poor excuse for a Speed Dial. Looks like you'll be sticking with Safari.

This page is not online, it's completely local and inside Opera itself. And you are free to customize it completely: you can delete all items on it, add new ones, and change the background. Unless you create an account to synchronize Opera with other Opera machines, which doesn't happen unless you do it yourself, the content of your Speed Dial never leaves your machine.
Personally I love the Speed DIal and I think it's the fastest way by far to reach content, but YMMV

There's also this as a potential fix:
