As has been said, you need to have a codec installed in your system to play these types of videos. Download a free codec from somewhere and install it.
Ah yes and unspecified codec from "somewhere"
Very helpful! Thank you.

Sure, let me get my spoon out so I can feed it to you. No, no, don't try and google search for it yourself, you might pull a muscle. Open your mouth wide...

I do in fact have ffdshow installed.
But thanks for the spooning, it was fun.

So these videos are still busted for me in version 32.0.1948.69
The video in my first post works in Chrome, Firefox and IE11(!) too.

So an interesting wrinkle to this issue is that SOME videos on twitter do work.
This one for instance does, however the one in my original post still does NOT work on my laptop.

Here's another example of a video that does NOT work.

All the videos you say don't work still work just fine for me. Its all down to what codecs are installed on your system. Twitter does not use the same codec for all of its videos.

Afaik Opera relies on native OS codecs to play those videos, it will not use other codecs the user have installed.
Interesting. Any idea on why these videos work on my other Windows 7 computers and not this one? Drivers and OS are up to date btw.

Are they all the same version of Windows 7? IE all Home Edition or Professional edition? I've heard some versions of Windows 7 don't have all codecs that the standard versions have.
On an unrelated note, if you have the upgrade for Windows 10 available I would take it. Maybe not today but after the next big round of patches comes out. That will solve your problem. User Classic Shell if you want to keep the old look and feel of Windows 7. 10 is better than 8 but I know some people just don't like it.

@pete8475, there is audio only or nothing at all on those non working videos?

7 Pro 64 bit on all machines.
Any extensions being used? If so, have you checked with them disabled?
I have no extensions of any sort installed.

Yeah on the broken ones I get audio and the video player controls like pause and the progress bar but the actual video is just black.

Same for me. For some videos there's only sound and black screen, and some work completely fine. Win 7 ultimate x64, Opera 32.0.1948.69.
