Is the new Opera 20 still garbage or have they implemented the 12.16 features again?

Very liked in Opera that there could copy the link as text!
You can still do that, but it is tricky. Click your mouse just outside the link, above or below for example, then down into the link and left or right to include the text. Not as smooth as the old version, but easier than typing the text you want to copy or search.

If you agree, it's ok, if you do not, don't try to convince the rest of the people with senseless arguments. Anything to say against the old Opera is meaningless.
Of course one could also make the polar opposite comment. "Don't try to convince the rest of the people here on the forum with senseless arguments that the new Opera isn't worth installing. Anything to say against the new Opera is relatively meaningless" SINCE it is a project still being developed AND it isn't even a year old. Can you not see that arguments against the new and for the old are meaningless? Do you honestly believe Opera is going to reverse itself at this point? Come on.. THINK. There is no point in calling Opera names and complaining. If you want to see features added, do so in a respectful manner in the appropriate forum.

The sad reality here is that some of the complainers and whiners from the old forum are still here whining and complaining as before.
And the trolls like yourself are still trolling.

Installed Opera 20 and deinstalled. Opera 11.64 still works well if I exclude couple of sites for which I use Chrome.
I am still hoping nextgen Opera would become browser as the old one was. I used it since Opera 4.0.5.
I also see that all old opera forums and messages are history...

As opposed to arguing against the old and for the new? What are you accomplishing here that's turned out any more fruitful than the posts of those you belittle? You're trying to extinguish a fire with gasoline. You're only expanding quarrels. You can't help with people's frustration when a) you're not its source and have no influence over that source b) act so aggressively you become a new source of argument and frustration yourself.
Maybe in an alternate dimension you can solve arguments by making everyone see things your way which simply requires you to describe your perspective, but as you've surely found out by now it doesn't work in this one.
I don't see how any of this helps the Opera team you're trying to defend so much. So if you really want to support them, try something else, this isn't working.

As @leushino is so strongly recommending, I will stay with 12.16.
The email and RSS/Atom reader is fully divorced from the browser, bookmarks are gone, I can't switch between tabs with the mouse wheel (and yes, mouse gestures are important to some of us).
Features like user scripts and downloads are present across browsers, but have changed somewhat in ways I find disconcerting. The spell check seems to work well. I've not used Dragonfly much in the new version. (It looks like it has all the "stuff", but some things like autoselecting items from the browser just don't work right.)
There are a number of Chrome-isms that I dislike, such as the large number of process threads it spawns.

Keep yourself informed instead of starting inflammatory threads. The new Opera is great. The old Opera was increasingly problematic. If you want you can continue to use the old Opera since security updates are still be applied. In the meantime, stop trying to stir up trouble.
How is he stirring trouble by stating the truth?? I dont get it! The general consensus feels that the new Opera sucks. How is that fact so trouble-making? I personally use Opera 11.52. To me, its the best browser ABOVE ALL NEW versions thereafter. I personally tried Opera 20 and its a disaster. Why did they mess up such a beautifully crafted browser only to make it look like Chrode? If anyone wants Chrode they can just download it. Theres no reason whatsoever to dismantle what was once the best browser on earth to make it like Chrode.
As a reminder, have you been watching the stats on browsers? I've been sitting here watching sadly how Opera has fallen in popularity since they transformed it into Chrode. Years ago before this mess, Opera was actually inching up some popularity; not much but much more so than now.
I think we should voice our opinion about the way Opera sucks now. Without that voice, how are the devs going to know how bad Opera is? I'm an outspoken dude. And I say Opera sucks!!!

Is it worth going back to Opera again after they decided to betray the user base and instead go for quick money with the Chrome engine?Have they managed to make it into anything even remotely similar to 12.16? Is there any reason to use Opera over Chrome, Firefox, IE or Maxthon?
Thanks in advance,

Just go into Settings and enable it there."
"The sad reality here is that some of the complainers and whiners from the old forum are still here whining and complaining as before. Look... if you want to stay with the older Presto version... STAY WITH IT. But recognize a few things: 1) it will become increasingly incompatible; 2) it will become, over time, increasingly insecure; 3) it is NOT going to be further developed in spite of your threats, complaints, bullying tactics and demeaning comments about the Opera Team; and 4) the source code will NOT be released since it is part of Opera's intellectual property."
"So, make a decision and move forward. Accept the decision that was made over a year ago. Opera is not going to reverse its course. The new browser is awesome and will only get better as new and some former features are added. Choose the new browser... stay with the old browser... choose another browser... but STOP already with the ridiculous complaints and whines."

I've been using Opera for many, many years and am a defender of Opera in general and have recommended it to family and friends for years. That said I find this post by julianmolin to be spot on whereas leushino comes off as the whiner, with a keyboard bend toward mean nasty comments. And lots of them. Having an opinion and sharing information is why the forum is here. For all his posts here he didn't offer one helpful hint. Just crap!
Bravo julianmolin
I for one still use 12.16 and while not perfect its awful close. I'm not giving it up until it becomes unusable.

The original post (and the title of this thread) both ask a question and simultaneously make inflammatory accusations and epithets describing Opera. The question asked is essentially whether it's "worth going back to Opera"; the inflammatory epithets abound (garbage, betray, go for quick money, etc...).
Any answer to such a question will necessarily be purely subjective, depending on the various personal preferences the whomever responders already have... so very little constructive can ever be obtained thereby. Opera lovers will say they love it, haters will say they hate it. Moreover, the question can easily and almost-trivially be answered by the OP himself: simply install Opera 20 and try it out... with an open mind, if one wants to be intellectually honest. Probably no participant of this forum, the OP included, is not capable of immediately installing and directly, first-person evaluating any browser on the market - including the New Opera.
So why is the question being asked? Reading the post, it appears from his language that the OP has already made up his mind negatively, and is simply fishing for confirmation and amplification of that negativity. This is why @leushino was dead-on correct in calling the thread inflammatory - which is defined as something designed to arouse anger, disorder, or tumult. And that's exactly what has occurred.
I still mainly use a combination of Opera 12.14 and Firefox; I'm not yet satisfied with the New Opera versions. Perhaps I never will be, or perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised at some point. Either way, I'll still be able to browse successfully, though in some ways not necessarily quite the way I might prefer. But what I really struggle to understand is why so many electrons are being continually inconvenienced in hopeless bouts of forum-posted hostile complaints, criticism, demands, threats, and all of it. Opera has made their choice regarding free-browser design... none of the harsh complaining will change that. Opera is not a democracy... there are no "recall" options. At the same time, there are no chains or border fences or purchase prices involved with Opera's browser... love it or leave it. The world will still go on.
In the meantime, please consider that requests and complaints, politely framed, thoughtfully reasoned, and carefully explained might - just might - still have a constructive impact on those developers who might chance to continue reading in threads that aren't laced with hostile, accusatory language in every other phrase.

The bookmarks bar in 20 can't handle my several thousand bookmarks, although it looks like it could probably handle several hundred.
I create folders (and sub folders) on the bookmarks bar. Yes it's not the same as a bookmark manager with import feature but you can at least store many many bookmarks this way (possibly even thousands if you really need that many!)

Try telling that to the Opera Team who say themselves that the old Presto engine was too time consuming to maintain and not supported by major companies due to lack of browser testing. Opera would be dead in the water if it continued with the Presto engine.

Hello
I would like to thank the creators of the OLD Opera browser. Opera was the browser with the best features and some minor compability issues. Opera was the fastest browser on the web. Opera had the best password manager the magic wand: with 1 mouse click you were logged in !! No-one does this thoday, not even Opera.
Opera has the best extensions for YouTube
Opera has an integrated bittorent client
Opera has email support
Opera is stable, secure and eager to be comptible with the web.
Opera is pioneer in new html standards HTML5, WebGL, GPU rendering
Opera has many more features for the real internet surfer as add to note, online account for saving favorites, multiple url hotkey search engine support, mouse gestures, browse session saving, IE support in case of incompatibility, . Opera has a clean quick dial (new tab) feature:
and one of the best tab management interfaces. I would like to thank Opera for all the years of browser greatness . But I am in search for a new browser now. Maybe I'll give Firefox a try.And when all the new people at Opera have iterated over some 30 more versions I am happy to try Opera again.
For now, Opera is just to unstable, to uncompatible, and not the state of features cool it Always was. I want, I think I am not alone, the OLD Opera quality back.
I know the people and the knowledge is in there at Opera, the designers in the past always had the right vision of how a browser should look like. It is about time this vision comes back.Opera, Thank you for all the great years and lets hope for a browser miracle at Opera in the comming months, or years. For now I am hunting other for a new browser. Maybe I'll catch the fox. Maybe I'll come back to Opera when he magic (wand) is back
kind regards

LOL... I was "sort of with you " until you said this: "Opera is just too unstable, too incompatible..." Uh... no. Opera 20 is far more stable and compatible than any of the previous Presto versions given today's web site requirements. It may not have all the features you had in the past but compatibility and stability are two areas in which it excels.

User since opera 6. I'm so sad that the mouse gestures and flips are gone from the new opera. Why can't the devs just keep them in the browser as an option, defaulted to off so as not to bother the newer users they're trying to snag?
I know the ship has already sailed, but I want to keep hoping!
So sad. Still using 12.16 and cringing at the seemingly inevitable...

I've been using opera since 2004 and all these years was by far the best browser for me and have recommended it and installed to many of my friends. Unfortunately the transition to chrome engine has destroyed lot's of useful features I've been using all that time and I've lost the feeling that is now more useful and initiative to any other browser. Although I'm using opera 20 waiting since opera 15 all the useful features of opera 12.16 to come back it seems to me that it's not gonna happen. I'll stick with opera maybe for couple more versions and if I won't see those feature come back probably I'll move to Firefox.
The things I miss most are:
-
Bookmarks of course. I was using always the sidebar with the bookmarks and was the most useful way. And no the bookmark bar is not even close to the sidebar usefulness.
-
Change the search engine to whatever I want to, It's my browser I want to use as default my search engine.
-
Open some files directly in browser or with the suitable program. No I don't want to save it first I want to see if I want to save it.
-
Opera link as it used to work, but definitely after the proper fix of the bookmarks so as not to mix things around.
and 5. Something which I'm afraid I won't find it again, is going back to to the memory usage of old good opera. That was the first reason that I started to use opera and I loved that was a very fast and the same time was using the minimum resources comparing to the other browsers. Now it is using huge amounts of memory and makes my 4 gigabyte computer needing to use a lot of page file often. Now I have 7 tabs open of mostly static content with blocked advertises with adblock+ and it's using almost 750mb, what for? With 15 tabs with more content easily can use in excess of 2 gigabytes.
I haven't written this post in order to make any stupid flame war. I've written it only in a hope that opera developers will start to integrate again the features that I'm, and probably others, are missing. If not at the end opera is a company and I'm a user, I'll have to search elsewhere.
