how to disable autorefresh

I'm a long-term user of Opera (10+ years) who has recently upgraded to 29.0.1795.60. On my last version, it was a relatively simple matter to shut down web page auto refresh / reload. I really hate this feature. Is there any way to disable autorefresh & HTML5 by default?

Opera 29 isn't the latest version.
Opera doesn't have an auto-refresh option so there is nothing to disable on this end. If the webpage has auto-refresh thats on them.
You can't disable HTML5. HTML5 is the scripting language most web pages are written in. It would be like asking if you could have all the consonants removed from books.

For some sites you can get rid autorefresh by disabling javascript - if other site UI and functionality remains usable of course. To quickly toggle javascript for sites, I'm using "Site preferences" extension.
What about HTML5, then probably you meant some sites, which play videos using new HTML5 tags? If you can't change playback preferences on site, then I currently don't know, how to disable HTML5 video efficiently.
Disabling javascript will disable some part of HTML5 either - canvas painting for example, which is usually done in javascript.
Other HTML5 functionality is like lando242 said, mostly just web page content and cannot be disabled.

You could try using an ad blocker to disable them. I've had success with that.
