      Hi,
Yes, you read that correctly, I'm still using Opera 9.62 on Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 (if it ain't broke, don't fix it..).

Unfortunately, now it is broke. This evening I moved the large amount of spam to trash and then emptied the trash. Now Opera crashes a minute or two after opening it each time. The report is below. Any ideas to fix would be very gratefully received.

      Cheers
      Ewan

Opera 9 was the first version I contributed too, I'd like to think that's why you're still using it 😛

Now for the crash. There's a good chance that this crash was fixed in a later version. I'd try backing up the whole profile, then trying to upgrade to newer versions (obviously no newer than 12.15, since I assume you're using this for the mail feature) and seeing if you can find a point at which it was fixed. You can find where your profile is stored in opera://about.

Note that upgrading would make your profile incompatible with older versions, which is why you should back it up so that you can go back to 9.62 if you want.

If it's mostly about the mail you could also try Opera Mail (http://www.opera.com/computer/mail) which should be able to read that profile as well.

          Thanks for your reply 🙂

Wrt to the crash, I had a Time Machine backup from a few days earlier. I restored my mail folders by restoring /Users/myname/Library/Application Support/Opera/Mail from that backup. I restarted Opera 9.62.. no change, it crashed within a minute or two. I restarted and the same happened. However, I realized I was selecting one of the 'continue' options from the startup dialogue. When I restarted and didn't choose continue but started a new session, it stopped crashing. I then restored again from a more recent backup and I'm up and running again. Possibly for another 5+ years 🙂

I looked at upgrading opera a few years ago and the process screwed up, as I remember. 9.62 works just fine on a desktop for me with all the filters etc I have set up. I'll probably take your advice and try 12.15 at some point, though, I have another mac I can try on (not that I am paranoid or anything). Meanwhile 9.62 survives another day...
          Cheers
          E
