Opera sucks big time, no wonder it only has 1.38% of market share

  • I used the Opera browser for over 10 years. I no longer use it. I don't like the browsers I'm using (FireFox and Chrome), but I continue to use them regardless, because it's better than the pain of trying to use the post version 12 Opera browsers.

I learned a long time ago that you can give your customers practically anything, but you can't later take it back, and expect your customer to be happy. In your case it is worse, because the 'anything' was quite excellent.

I keep checking back in once in a while to see if things have improved. Other than finally adding a bookmark capability, they have not.

Instead of continuing to lead (remember when everyone stole your creative ideas?), you have decided to copy the look of the market share leaders (FF, Chrome), and you have created something that is still (after what, 2 or more years?) not as capable as what you abandoned.

  • Go away and be happy with your new browser. No one really cares what you think of Opera. Millions of others love it and that's all that matters. And... it's getting better every day.

  • I am writing this comment out of pure despair.
I have followed this thread and there seems to be some people here with insight. I have one question to all of you that is on the positive side (me included except for the following):
How on earth is it possible to get in contact with Opera if you have a problem with your account?
There is no "help-link" and if you call them they can only tell you to go to this forum site.
Is there a law or something that it must be possible to get in contact with a public service provider?
I have posted a thread about my problem, but nobody is answering. Does that mean nobody from the staff are in here?
I need to change my mail address because the old one will stop working, and when typing in my new address I am told that the new mail is already connected to another account?????? What then? A tech person would for sure find out what is wrong, but it might be easier to get in contact with Elvis....or the big Man himself

First of all, and trust me that I understand your frustration, I still have to point out that you're off topic. Still, I can see where you're coming from, also because someone else sort off 'revived' the thread. Even so...

The forums are are a community effort for the most part. So it's very well possible that no one knew the answer or your thread didn't got noticed. Either case most of this is based on best effort.

I need to change my mail address because the old one will stop working, and when typing in my >new address I am told that the new mail is already connected to another account?????? What then?

Well, the meaning should be obvious: it seems another account is already using that address. Are you sure that you didn't open a new Opera account already somewhere in the past?

The FAQ about Opera accounts is pretty clear on the matter; when you de-activate an account then you got 7 days to re-activate it, after that it will be gone. However, this also means that if you deleted an account and are now trying to use details from it (like the e-mail address) you'd first have to wait for 7 days before the account gets really removed, after that happens you can use these details. Not before...

  • Thank you for answering Shelluser. I know I am off topic, but I tried to force a response.
You just confirmed my fears. It is not possible to contact Opera. It is a pity.
If I end my account and wait for 7 days, what will I loose?
Answer this and I promise to keep out of this thread.

Most of us are not exactly customers.
For one, I haven't paid Opera ASA a penny so far. Nor have I paid Google, Mozilla, Adobe, or any other tech guys.
    I'm a user.

Well, I did pay Microsoft somehow - now they abandon my XhiP, and no way to upgrade as it seems for now. Though this is another story*:)*

  • joshl makes a good point. We are users but not customers. Opera has provided software that we are free to use (although it is not ours nor will it ever be ours) or to find other software that meets our needs. Had we actually paid for the browser, it might make a difference but that is not the case. I find it a bit disingenuous when we "tell" Opera how to make their browser and some go as far as to threaten to leave it for another browser. The bottom line is this: Opera will do whatever is in their best interests in terms of growing the business. And the business "is" growing well so if a few "old" or "former" disgruntled users are upset with the direction Opera has chosen to take, that is their prerogative and that is life. We need to deal with it and move on.

  • In what way is the business growing? I looked at the stats recently and the user numbers seem to be the lowest since they first started. I suppose there is some other measure tho, still possible they making more money I suppose

  • Some disgruntled users and ex users. I have used opera for a long time now.The feature sets are what I like and use. If you know how to use it. It should work well for you. I am using both the beta and stable versions in 4 machines. Win 7, Win8.1, Linux Mint 17.1. What I like the most is I can pretty much replicate everything instantly in another machine.

I am running into a problem with Windows 10 preview where Korean fonts are not displaying properly.

  • My first time using this browser, been using IE ever since '99, but I thought I'd give it a try on Opera. I'm happy with it so far. Just my 2 cents. I don't consider myself a customer, but if I am one, I'm a happy one at least for now.
