"In this version, we focused on removing duplicate bookmarks, introducing a separate search bar, cleaning up the settings page and a few other improvements.
No duplicate bookmarks
When we started syncing bookmarks, we found that many of you had duplicates of the same URLs. Some extreme corner-cases reached more than 1000 duplicates. We debugged a lot of the sync protocol and considered many different scenarios, but we didn’t get any closer to a solution. Therefore, we introduced a duplicate-removal tactic in Opera 35.
When you aren’t signed in and syncing, the algorithm is pretty straightforward: we pick candidates for the duplicates removal based on their ID in the bookmarks model.
If you are syncing, things get a little bit trickier because we cannot remove duplicates until they known to the server. Otherwise, we introduce duplicates again. We figured out a solution, and to consider any possible performance drawbacks, we tested it on Windows XP Core 2 Duo machine (our sysadmins hate us for doing that, since it is not officially supported). We saw in our logs that duplicates are no longer an issue.

A(n optional) separate search box
We know that many people prefer to use a separate search box. But, we’re taking it slow and testing to see if we want to enable this option by default. In Opera 35, the search box appears as an advanced setting. If you enable it, the separate search box will appear next to the heart button in the browser chrome. I’m unsure whether advanced users need it, but now you know where to find it. Tell us what you think about the box and we’ll weigh you opinion with our tests to see if we start providing this by default.
A cleaner settings page
The settings page is the third-most visited internal page just after Speed Dial and history. With testing, we saw that many people visited the settings page to personalize browser according to their tastes. So, we introduced a “basic” section in Opera 35, where you can decide about browser’s behavior on startup, how downloaded files will be saved, change your theme and more. We believe that simplicity matters and the current settings page has become too complicated. Therefore, we’re hoping to make it easier to use. Check it out.
A more basic browser vocabulary
I’ve seen many of you joking about the recent change of the menu name from “Opera” to, well, “menu”. We know that this change makes no difference to our loyal users, but when people install our browser for the first time, it does. Instead of enigmatic word that states our brand, the term “menu” describes the feature itself. We saw that many more people clicked on the menu when it was labeled “menu” instead of “Opera”. It’s similar to the change we made from our previous Discover feature to the more generic and function “news”.
Minor changes intended for new users
Joking aside, small improvements like how we talk about the browser make a difference for new users. So, we made another simple change: when you install Opera, we maximize the window on the first run, so you have one less click to worry about before using the app.
And, there’s more for new users. Now, it is easier to turn on the bookmarks bar from the heart-menu popup. We saw during testing that many people look there for an option to enable the bar. We tested having the bookmarks bar turned on by default and saw an insignificant difference in the feature’s use. We decided to give you a choice to turn it on, when you need it.Improvements under the hood
One of the most important changes we made under the hood migrates all the internal pages (start page, about, etc.) from a technology called WebUI to Chromium’s new Private API. All JavaScript communication is now done through this new extension API. It gives us better structure and we can maintain our code more easily.
We’ve been gradually moving to this API for a while and we’re not changing just to make our lives easier. In Opera 35, we upgraded the download manager to this API and restyled it. It is not just nicer version of the previous one, but it is also gives you quick links to PDFs, documents, images and more.
Less unfinished downloads
When we talk about downloads, one of the most annoying situations many of you complain about on the blog has to do with closing the browser while downloading a huge file on slow network. Now, Opera will ask for confirmation if you want to close browser when you are still downloading in the background.
Improvements to muting tabs
Many people like me listen to music on YouTube. It plays on an open tab somewhere on the tab bar. All of a sudden, it’s a loud tab. I mean a really loud tab! If you like me, you panic and close the tab. Why should you have to do that, when you actually want the content there? Now, you can easily turn off the sound for this tab using a mute button. There are many more use-cases you provided us during our testing on the developer channel.
Based on your feedback and our belief in simple-yet-powerful design, we decided not to show the mute button on each tab (instead, it appears when you hover over the tab) and we removed the main mute button. We made the context menu richer, so when you right-click on a tab with sound, you can mute your other tabs.
If you use Linux, you might be interested in knowing that we are going to provide RPM packages. It’s a small improvement, which hope will make you happier."
Chromium has been updated to version 48.0.2564.41.

I develop some websites and i see since the new update of opera 35 :
- impossible for Opera Beta to be compatible with the "perpective" attribute in Css3.
At this time , its the only bug, but its very annoying
Chrome and Explorer 100% working
Opera and Firefox 100% Fail

"Small comment about the Netflix support on Linux, it's not so straightforward to make it work. This is what you need:
- compatible widevine libraries (see /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera-beta/resources/widevine_config.json for search paths, version 48.x). I'm pretty sure some distros have a separate package for it with some custom installation dir,

ffmpeg with h264 support (e.g. chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra version 48.x),

fake user agent to Chromium (--user-agent command line switch).
This version 48 is determined by chromium version our product is based on, major version mismatches sometimes work, but no guarantee."

Mac version still erroneous DRM load for Widevine in Amazon Video under b35.02.2066.23 and Mac OSX 10.11.2

Nice.....However, also in Opera 35 for Linux (Installed in Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon),
the bookmark page looks "crashed". Looking forward to have that fixed so that bookmarks
can be browsed from the bookmarks page rather than from the TABS page, which I now use
as a workaround (screenshot available, if required).

Hi! Long time no post... ^_^
Anybody having issues with the bookmark manager (Bookmarks -> Show all bookmarks) not working on Linux? (Ubuntu 14.04.03)
It shows a weird repetition of the top-left corner of the browser window with some hue-modified colors. o_O -

Hi @xfranky, if this, what you see looks similar to that, what is shown in the screenshot here, then most probably it's a problem with your graphics card driver, and in that case, you can try to follow one of the tips, which I mentioned here - except that, instead of
/usr/bin/opera --disable-gpu-compositing, you run/usr/bin/opera-beta --disable-gpu-compositing, and instead ofusr/bin/opera --disable-gpu, you call/usr/bin/opera-beta --disable-gpu -

The Opera 35.0.2066.37 has been promoted the the stable channel

Mute tabs
Sometimes, you close a tab just after you opened it because there is a loud ad or auto-playing video.
Now, we’ve made it easier for you to mute the sound from a website so you can continue viewing or reading the page without closing its tab.
From the tab’s context menu, we also added an option to mute all other tabs. This is especially helpful in some cases when you are, for example, listening to music on YouTube while browsing sites with auto-play sounds and videos that interfere with your music.
Improved downloads
We’ve made many improvements to the download popup in Opera for computers, and, for version 35, it’s high time we roll out a refreshed interface which gives you a better view of downloaded files.
Beyond the interface, we also included quick links for the most used file formats: documents, PDFs, images, music, videos, archives and others.
Many of you reported that, especially on slower networks, Opera for computers exits without warning that a file is downloading. Now, we will double check with you to ensure that your file has been downloaded. You will get a popup message to confirm if you want to close the browser while you are still downloading in the background.
Customize as you like
We love testing how you use the browser because that’s the most efficient way to get feedback from real people about Opera for computers.
We see that you love customizing your browser. And, Opera for computers has options for customization. Thanks to you who agreed to send us anonymous usage statistics. We were able to see the frequently-changed settings.
This is why we introduce a new, basic section in Opera’s settings.
Now, you can easily decide on options for start-up behavior, downloads, bookmarks bar or cookies. We have not only gathered big data, we also listened to live users’ feedback and added the possibility to change themes directly from settings.
Good News for Linux Users!
Linux systems coverage has increased. We made Opera 35 Stable for 32bit platform architecture and we’re also adding RPM packages.
These are the most visible changes we introduced in this release. There are many more changes under the hood. Read through the change log if you want to see them all.
It is just the beginning of 2016. Stay tuned and you will hear about a lot of cool stuff we have planned for you. And, as always, let us know what you think about Opera for computers in the comments.

Thanks for the changes, I like the mute and mute other tabs additions. Very useful!
Also appreciate you considering the addition of a separate search window, as this is something I have missed. However in its present form it only allows you to use the default search engine, the same one as the main window, so it brings little benefit. It would be much better if you could quickly select from a drop down menu the search engine you need for a particular search. Thanks!

Important security update - Opera stable 35.0.2066.82

Also, if you take a look at the change log, you’ll see that it breaks the record of brevity. There’s only one entry there – we fixed a crash on dragging a pinned tab.
Unfortunately, the fix for DNA-47405 “Monitor won’t go sleep when Opera has animated theme” proved to be more complicated to backport than expected (yes, these things happen sometimes) and didn’t make it to the release. Truly sorry for that.
The Chromium version with the security fix is now 48.0.2564.116.
