Sync not working

Thanks for the personal touch, but currently I seem not to have a specific issue with a bug in Opera and don't see the point discussing off the public forum.
My main issue, before even hitting the bookmark duplication bug which is all over the boards, is not a bug, rather a feature. And those are much harder to squash. Other two issues that I mentioned can be attributed to simple growing pains.
The question is.. why did someone at Opera browser development intentionally decide that for the new Opera sync - and in complete opposite to Opera link - alphabetically sorting bookmarks on import is a good idea?
Without it being an option. When the sorting on the exporting node is far from alphabetically sorted. Knowing that the sort order from the bookmarks json file is fully respected on the bookmarks bar when running Opera.
It just doesn't make sense. And yet, it is done on purpose.
With the risk of repeating myself, why?
Moving on.. I do know from years of IT that sync is a complex problem to solve, especially between more than 2 nodes. Yet, isn't that the reason Chrome devs started using a GUID for each bookmark in the json bookmark file?

What do you mean by alphabetically sorting bookmarks on import? What do you understand by import here?

After turning on sync, logging into sync.opera.com, and clicking on the Bookmarks button the list of bookmarks appears. That list does not have the same order as bookmarks on the bookmarks bar.

This is something wasn't implemented for the first release of WebClient but we've already patch for it. If everything will be fine then will be released today or tomorrow. Will put confirmation here.

Actually it was implemented, that was the reason for my initial post. Somebody decided that alphabetically sorting bookmarks from the bookmarks bar is good.
It might be for some, but generally people do not like their carefully ordered bookmarks reordered without permission.

If Opera for PC (or other client) does that then it's purely on the client side and has nothing to do with synchronization.

Yep, I like Opera but this issue is definitively present and real. Let's try to solve it together.
I usually know, more or less, what is the last thing I bookmark. So, when I log in another device, if such last thing is not present, I assume I'm suffering this issue. What I do in the device I see such issue (and it works for me but use it at your own risk and remember you have a bookmark Trash to recover them if you fail) is:
- log out using the extension button: - remove all your bookmarks so you have a bookmark bar clean. - log in again
Since you delete them when you are offline, on log in they are synced.
Obviously, this is not the best way, but it works for me. Opera has to fix this ASAP since it has been occuring for months.

I have just reinstalled fresh Windows and Opera and found out that sync does not work anymore!
And it seems like it hasnt been working for some time because I lost some my bookmarks! When I installed it I was able to get some old bookmarks but fresh ones are gone forever with my old OS.
Now I cannot even log in.It looks like it connects to sync but than disconnects almost instantly with no reason.
I was sure I have it all safe on server! What a hell, Opera, why didnt you warn me you close the synchronization?!

At first I wasn't sure what you actually meant by this, but reading it again probably says that you are in charge of syncing webclient code and servers. Compared to being in charge for both Opera browser client code and server code.
That's good. And bad. Probably bad..
Well, I do have to commend the correctly held sorting of bookmarks folders and subfolders when importing from Opera Link to Sync. Still, some bugs crept up in the whole process.
For some reason when opening subfolders in Sync webclient some closed items do not get cleared away completely. Opening let say Trash and closing it leaves a bookmark or two on the list. Tested only in Opera.
The date added of bookmarks imported from Opera Link to Sync and then synced to Opera client end up somewhere north of 1646! Although old, don't think I've had a computer at that time. Do have a look at your date code on the Link - Sync webclient tool. Generally the best thing to do is to copy the original date bookmark was synced to Link. Folders got the correct, but really incorrect current date. Metadata should not just be thrown away.
Third, and nearly last, bookmarks with URL field without http:// cladding got eaten up and did not regurgitate anywhere. Just disappeared into the halls of Opera. Not a nice thing to do. That makes the whole process untrustworthy and requires manual checking. Which then defeats the whole purpose of a sync tool.
In the meantime, Opera Link still keeps throwing me out of its web page. To get back in I need to manually delete the link.opera.com cookies. Happens both in Firefox and Opera. Nobody seen that one?

@knjers:
- Regarding not clearing away some items while navigating through folders. Does it reproduce every time?
- Where you discovered wrong date of bookmarks imported from Link?
- When you say about URLs without protocol I need to get more details like when it happens exactly (f.ex while adding page to bookmarks, removing http:// prefix)?

Unfortunately not. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Not a specific thing at a specific place.
Just tried now.. it left the remnants of the upper folder on the bottom of the current. Those were unclickable, without an URL. Also, a folder changed its place in the list upon autorefresh. Using Opera 33.0.1990.115 on Win10 x86.Where you discovered wrong date of bookmarks imported from Link?
Upon manually checking the bookmarks after syncing them from Link, to Sync, then to Opera. Looking with two separate extensions showed that all imported bookmarks had the year set in 1646. Exporting them through a third extension showed negative dates in the HTML file.
When you say about URLs without protocol I need to get more details like when it happens exactly (f.ex while adding page to bookmarks, removing http:// prefix)?
Some bookmarks got to Opera Link without the protocol header. Probably a long time ago from a Symbian phone. Those did not survive the Link - Sync import tool. Just disappeared.

- Could you make a screenshots describing the whole situation?
- All imported bookmarks have mtime and ctime set to current date (UTC) - just looked at our code. Which property are you referring to?
- We do not handle URLs without protocol in any special way from what I see but will investigate.

Although the sync indicator appears to work (I'm logged into my Opera account on all my devices) in my Nokia E-63 phone's OperaMini v7.1.32444 (Symbian S60v3), the bookmarks I save don't appear in the Opera browser of my Windows 8.1 and neither do they appear in the Opera and OperaMini browsers of my Android phone (Samsung GT-I8262, running 4.1.2). Why is this flaw so?

It uses Link, the old sync service that was descontinued.

I'm having similar issues. My passwords are not syncing from Opera Desktop to Opera on my Android phone. Using stable version for both. Tried Beta and Mini and Mini Beta, none of them will sync on my Android device. This is rather frustrating.
