Why is Opera so slow at loading pages

Opera seems to load pages extremely slow - over a minute for most pages. Safari on the other hand usually loads those same webpages in a few seconds.

It sounds like something is very wrong :).
Check these:
- Have you turned on Opera Turbo (Opera -> Opera Turbo)? If so turn it off
- Do you have any additional security software running - third party firewalls, or even (gasp) a firewall?
- Try running with a 'clean profile', you do this by renaming
/Users/{YOURUSERNAME}/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera
while Opera isn't running

Thanks!
I turned turbo off and matters improved, I'm not using any firewall.
I could not find com.operasoftware.Opera in that folder but when I restarted my speed dial settings were reset to their original settings, I changed them to my preferences and speed has improved considerably. -

- Open a new TAB/WINDOW. Type in opera:config
- Find the Performance dropdown box, near the bottom. Click it to have it display a bunch of new options.
- Make sure the settings are as follows for standard performance:
Enable Pipeline - Checked
HTTP Error Strategy - 2
Max Connections Server - 16
Max Connections Total - 64
Network Buffer Size - 32
No Connection Keepalive - Unchecked
Non-Compliant Server 100 Continue - Unchecked
Reduce Max Persistent HTTP Connections - Unchecked
Synchronous DNS Lookup - Unchecked - Hit save. Restart browser.

For http page, it's as fast as other browser. But when loading https page, Opera takes much longer, Yahoo Mail is a good example.

@ mathewandrson:
opera:config does'nt work like you mentioned with Opera 33. By typing it, you will end at the "normal" configuration window!
