[FAQ] Opera's whole interface is too big. How do I fix it?

As of version 24 Opera now respects Windows' dpi settings.

Where do I set those?

1. right-click your desktop
2. choose "Screen resolution"
3. click "Make text and other items larger or smaller"

Okay, but I want it to stay as it is, but Opera to be just as big as before

Right. Unfortunately there's no easy way to do this yet. The only way to do this right now (working so-so starting from Opera 25, working perfectly as of version 28) is:

1. add the --alt-high-dpi-setting=96 command line parameter to a shortcut
   (if you don't know how to do that have a look here)
2. start Opera via this shortcut

Yes, that doesn't work if Opera gets started by another program (e.g. by clicking a link in an email), but it's better than nothing, right?
We'll let you know right here as soon as there's an alternative.

btw: you can scale Opera (28+) to any size by changing 96 (= 100%) into something else, e.g. 120 = 125%, 144 = 150%, 192 = 200%, 240 = 250% or anything in between and beyond

I experimented with this using Opera 24.0.1558.61 Stable in Windows 7 64-bit. That setting has no effect here.

Someone posted in another thread here that this command line switch works only in versions above Opera 24, such as developer and beta.

Your "--alt-high-dpi-setting=96" trick works for me right now (Opera 30), but of course it doesn't allow me to set Opera as my default browser given any "out-of-shortcut" startup doesn't fix the issue. So, don't you think Opera developers could provide an easy way to fix that, for instance, allowing to enable/disable that feature in "Opera:flags"?

Unfortunately for Opera (that I think is otherwise a good software), Firefox has a quicker response time to this kind of issues, because when developers don't react properly someone somewhere makes an add-on which fixes them, whereas in Opera add-on culture is yet in its infancy.
