I understand, then it'll jump to stable with 28? If that's the case this is a really exciting update 🙂

The texture compression feature is the first in many steps to reduce memory usage on Opera for Android.

Please yes, I also hope so. That must finally come.

Having that said I have no use for a exit button at all, I'd rather to close all tabs and leave the browser in the memory so I can come back to it faster later. The OS can take care of it automatically, or I can use the recent apps view to swipe Opera out of the RAM when I really need to close it.

              Hi guys,

Generally speaking what is in the Beta will be in the next release of final, but sometimes things are unveiled in the beta channel that forces us to push the feature back. A good example of this is Texture Compression which has wide reaching technical implications which are not all easy to foresee until it's "in the wild", or Sync which has a lot of moving parts and several teams working toward the same goal. Both of these features have appeared in earlier betas.

Hi, would you please add the full screen mode which can hide the Android status bar in next update? That's would be really cool. Thx! 😃

Currently Android status bar is present in media player with ICS, anyway without that bar Opera browser looks weird even on small screens.

And the useless, annoying opera icon still remains when long pressing the home button. Nobody asked for this, yet there it is, agressively ,no option to turn it off

WebGl would be disabled by default for texture compression?

I guess that could be done via root access.

Flash is dead, get over it folks...

It slows down browsing. It receives no more security updates. It can't be installed in latest versions of Android without hacking. Etc...

@sagrid, texture compression is only used by the compositor so it doesn't affect anything you can read back from webgl, only the actual displayed end result you see on screen. So, no texture compression is on regardless of you using webgl or not.

OK then. On ip-check.info webgl is detected with Nexus 7 but not with a chinese tablet and that's why I ask.

Right, well I've been involved in webgl for a long time. Short story is that graphics drivers just hasn't been up to the standards required so the use of webgl is heavily blacklisted. On newer devices like Nexuses and S5's it's going to be just fine, but older devices or "quirky" devices there's a fair chance webgl has been turned off because you might otherwise see serious issues, like security problems or devices rebooting.
