This was a standard ability in Opera Presto (12.x and below) though not sure if it's possible to be added to Opera Blink either natively or via an extension.

Did you miss my post? Granted the Notifycon extension is not exactly the same as the Presto behaviour. It reads the title looking for (n)—where n is a number—and adds this as an image to the favicon (updating in real time). It may be good enough for @imshady since he specifically mentioned Twitter. Additionally you get the additional benefit of seeing the exact count.

Given that your posting times differ by one minute it probably wasn't there when he wrote the answer... :sherlock:

Oops!, I did miss your post, as it looks like we posted more or less at the same time. But I do see it now. 🙂

I was thinking of a more generalised indicator/notifier than one specific to a single service, as the topic starter did say 'or similar'.

Oh, on further looking, I did find this.

            Page Monitor

But you will need to first install the extension @ruario mentioned in his first post in this thread, before installing the Page Monitor one.

Notifycon is not tied to a specific service. It works with any website that adds (n) to the title. Gmail, Twitter and Facebook all do this. As do thousands of other sites.

Oh, I thought it was. I stand corrected. That will teach me to read and research more thoroughly next time.

Oh, and good bye stupid spammer. 😃

... and Facebook all do this.

Why Facebook? - it can do without that perfectly by itself in any browser I've used so far: its title changes to include a parenthesised integer at its front - like

                  "(1) Linux Mint"
                  🙂

Hmm, did you read what I wrote? Here is one of the key bits again:

It works with any website that adds (n) to the title. Gmail, Twitter and Facebook all do this.

The other point you missed is that you cannot see (n) in small tabs—think pinned tabs (see screenshot above). This extension adds the number in red to the favicon, which is also more attention grabbing. Drawing your attention is a key point in an extension designed to notify you.

@linuxmint7 page monitor seems nice (I'm actually going to install it myself). I suspect this is probably what @imshady had in mind. Though perhaps Notifycon could also solve his use case.

Oh, I thought it was. I stand corrected.

                      No problem! 😃

Wow, thanks a lot for the insanely fast responses. I did the things and it works beautifully. I can now completely shift to Opera knowing that the tab notifications work exactly how I want it to 😃

1, it's syntactically ambiguous - though it's my fault that I'm getting accustomed to some people's wrong punctuation, so sorry.
2 - if it is already written as your tab's name, why in Tab's sake you're gonna need a feature? To do what? Send you an SMS?
