Suggestions/Feedback for Opera for Mac (running beta 26.0)

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I have noticed a few things running beta 26.0 of Opera.

1. Right clicking on a mac should immediately popup a menu and allow you to start selecting the menu item.
   Example:
   When you right click on a word it should automatically show the menu and select the word at the same time (like chrome and safari does). Right now, you have to right-click, then let go of the button, then the menu pops up, then you have to select the menu item you want to perform on the selected text (e.g. search for the word on google). With Chrome and Safari, you simply right click on the word, and select the search menu item without letting up on the menu button.

2. Download monitor progress does not come up most of the time. It comes up at first. Then, it stays gone and when I click on it, it won't come back up.

3. Toolbar items do seem like they can be moved (i.e. the extension toolbar items that I have added). This would be a nice to have feature.

4. Speed dial should be able to be more configurable. I would like to add my own icons. Or better yet, I would like to use my own Speed dial page. I tried adding one I normally use from extensions but the Opera speed dial page kept coming up.

Everything is looking great so far though and I am slowly becoming an Opera user! Love all the "Extra" features. That, along with the speed, is keeping my interest from going back to safari or Chrome.

Not sure I got this right, but when right clicking a word, you are prompted with a contextual menu and the word you clicked is selected/highlighted (I'm using Opera Developer 27 though). If you mean that you have to select the word by dragging the mouse over the word and then right click it to open up the contextual menu, that's not the case for me. The word selection and the pop-up menu are both executed simultaneously on right click. Same as in Safari and Chrome. The only difference is that the actual contextual menu is different between these browsers, which is quite to be expected.
If you want, you could try right clicking the word, than dragging your mouse over the menu item (search for example) and then just let go of the right click button. This way it will execute the search command when you let go of the button.

Could not reproduce this one. The pop-up bubble containing information about download progress is always displayed when a new download is initiated, and it always comes up when clicking the Downloads icon.

This would be a nice addition indeed.

Not sure what you mean by "your own icons". I don't think that Opera is adding those thumbnails. I think they are fetched from that specific site's servers. When you add a new site, you also add a new "icon". You can't really change that cause that would require access to the site's server. If you want to be able to put a picture of your cat as a thumbnail for YouTube for example, that could be done, in theory....but that's a feature that not many people will use, in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. By "my own icons" for speed dial, I am referring to the thumbnail. I like a little more control over what is showing on the speed dial page.

Also, concerning the Developer version - how stable is it? Is it worth moving to or should I wait till the changes come over to the beta version (or stable version).

One more question - how often do they generally create releases for the beta and dev channels?

The Developer version is rock solid for my usage. Your mileage may vary, but I would say it is worth a try. I'm not a developer and I didn't get it for the developer features. But it's got one feature that I really like: bookmarks sync.

About your other question, the answer is: I don't know. I don't work for Opera. What I can tell you is that I started with Opera Developer 26 and in a few weeks it got updated to version 27. Not sure they have scheduled updates at regular intervals. Anyway, don't worry, the performance is good and personally I didn't have any issues with it, at least not issues that Opera can fix. There were some issues with the Flash player, but that's Adobe's business and they fixed it with the newest BETA releases.
Anyway, my suggestion for you about Opera Developer: whether or not you're a developer, go for it. It's worth it.

Regarding the context menu, it opens on mouse down by default. If you have been to options and checked “Enable mouse gestures” or “Enable rocker gestures” then they will open on mouse up by necessity. This should be documented in the help section for these features.

Ahh, I see. You are correct. I guess that's the trade off. Any way to have both? I would assume I would still get the popup menu but, I don't really mind it at all. Obviously, this would have to be in a setting somewhere as most users might be bothered by it.

I love the mouse gestures but I miss my instant popup menu as well.
