Where is Go to URL button?

For business and personal reasons, I use several operating systems.
I installed an older version of Opera that was compatible with an
old version of Windows. Everything works fine, but I immediately
noticed something was missing. There is no "Go to URL (or Page)"
button next to the navigation bar. Here is an extensive list of buttons you can drag into Opera, but
I don't see a "Go to URL" button.http://operawiki.info/customButtons#creating
This button maker page is easy to use, but I can't translate the
results into a visible button.http://nontroppo.org/tools/buttonmaker/
Where can I get a basic "Go to URL" button, which is included by
default with all other browsers. -

Can't be done on Opera 15+, but on earlier versions it can be added.
Find the "standard_toolbar (1).ini" file in your Profile\Toolbar folder.
Back it up somewhere so you can easily restore it if things go wrong!
With Opera closed, open the file in notepad or whatever, and look for a section called [Document Toolbar.content].
Under the Address0 entry add the following line -Button1, "Go"="Go, "Go", , "Go", "Send Mail""
Copy it exactly, including all the quote marks.
Save it and run Opera again, and hopefully the Go button will be back on the right of the address bar!
Incidentally, the "send mail" bit of the line is the button icon, which is used in the mail section too, and seemed the best to use as a "Go" button to me!

Right Click on any toolbar -
Customize > Appearance...
In the dialog, select the "Buttons" tab,
Then select "Browser view" in categories, on the left side.
The second button is the one you're looking for. -

That button brings up the "goto" dialogue window for you to type your URL into.
Unless I misunderstood, I think what the OP wants is the Go button that used to be to the right of the address bar, which other browsers have, which you can press after typing a URL into the address bar.

Else, paste this in your URL bar : opera:/button/Go,,,Go,%22Go%22
Then, click on the link of the error page.

First, I apologize for not returning to this forum sooner.
I started with computers when they were built from articles
in electronic hobby magazines. That was many years ago.My computer related posts are usually so complex no one bothers
to reply. If I'm lucky, I just overlooked something simple and
obvious. That's what happened with my "Go to URL" button.g00g00 you're 100% correct! I found the button I was looking
for. It's now next to the navigation bar, where it should have
been by default.I appreciate all your replies. Thanks guys.

I am glad we have found the button, but is it not just wasting space to have that button? I mean if one already has hands on keyboard its easier to just press enter. Or instead of paste use paste and go.
Or what is a case where one would need it?, since we all have different browsing habits

What I am trying to understand is how one gets the url in the address bar just sitting there waiting to press the go button. Seems to me either one would type it and press enter, or copy it from somewhere and hit "paste and go". Just trying to see some examples of how a go button would be necessary and/or more convenient even when using a mouse. No offense

Drag and drop, try it.
Cool, I thought there had to something else. I don't recall if I have ever used drag and drop to populate address bar, but I will certainly give it a go. Maybe I will end up wanting a go button too

Drag and drop actually "pastes and goes" for me, so no need for a button!

Strangely, not for me in 12.14. I have to click the 'Go' button to proceed.

Hmm. Is that on a Linux box? On my Win7-64 unit with Opera 12.14, paste-and-go into the address box is present and functional.

'Paste and go' is there (in the menu) and works as it should, It's only when I drag n drop (an address link or search request) to the address bar that I have to click the 'Go' button. Unlike Dave, whose request is processed immediately (according to what he said above) without the need to press the 'Go' button. But I guess he is using a slightly newer version of Presto (12.17 ?) ?.
Oh, and yes, this is a Linux box (laptop). Linux Mint 17 (installed on a USB flash drive) to be exact. What else would it be ?.

Ahh... OK, now I understand. In my Opera 12.14, I get the same drag-drop behavior as you... I have to click the 'Go' button to get the browser to navigate to the URL I've dropped. As you note, perhaps 12.17 behaves differently, but for various reasons, I've stayed at the *.14 level, so I have no way to check it.

Wait, I don't even understand the need to drag and drop a link or even any block of text for that matter. Not easier to just select "go to web address" or search from the right click menu?
-

This is just my take on it, and how it works for me in 12.14. Drag n drop searches or goes to a web address in the current tab, whereas 'Go to web address' and 'Search' or 'Search with' opens in a new tab. It may work differently for you guys.

I've tried on 11.64, 12.14 and 12.17 and dragging texts/links to the adress bar only paste them there. If I remember correctly in the past it worked as Dave described. Maybe Opera ASA disabled this for security reasons like with autopasting from clippoard?

It's always worked to paste and go as far as I can remember, and I don't think I customised the behaviour from its default.
I actually mainly use the facility for images, where if I want to go to the source it's really quick and easy to just click on the image (only ones without embedded links of course) and drag it to the address bar, which opens the image in a new tab.
