Where is Go to URL button?

... is it not just wasting space to have that button? I mean if one already has hands on keyboard its easier to just press enter. Or instead of paste use paste and go.
Or what is a case where one would need it?, since we all have different browsing habitsIf one is using a mouse most of the time... 'buttons' are for mouse usage. Some of us only use the keyboard when we absolutely have to. As you note, we all have different browsing habits.

What I am trying to understand is how one gets the url in the address bar just sitting there waiting to press the go button. Seems to me either one would type it and press enter, or copy it from somewhere and hit "paste and go". Just trying to see some examples of how a go button would be necessary and/or more convenient even when using a mouse. No offense

Drag and drop, try it.
Cool, I thought there had to something else. I don't recall if I have ever used drag and drop to populate address bar, but I will certainly give it a go. Maybe I will end up wanting a go button too

Drag and drop actually "pastes and goes" for me, so no need for a button!

Strangely, not for me in 12.14. I have to click the 'Go' button to proceed.

Hmm. Is that on a Linux box? On my Win7-64 unit with Opera 12.14, paste-and-go into the address box is present and functional.

'Paste and go' is there (in the menu) and works as it should, It's only when I drag n drop (an address link or search request) to the address bar that I have to click the 'Go' button. Unlike Dave, whose request is processed immediately (according to what he said above) without the need to press the 'Go' button. But I guess he is using a slightly newer version of Presto (12.17 ?) ?.
Oh, and yes, this is a Linux box (laptop). Linux Mint 17 (installed on a USB flash drive) to be exact. What else would it be ?.

Ahh... OK, now I understand. In my Opera 12.14, I get the same drag-drop behavior as you... I have to click the 'Go' button to get the browser to navigate to the URL I've dropped. As you note, perhaps 12.17 behaves differently, but for various reasons, I've stayed at the *.14 level, so I have no way to check it.

Wait, I don't even understand the need to drag and drop a link or even any block of text for that matter. Not easier to just select "go to web address" or search from the right click menu?

This is just my take on it, and how it works for me in 12.14. Drag n drop searches or goes to a web address in the current tab, whereas 'Go to web address' and 'Search' or 'Search with' opens in a new tab. It may work differently for you guys.

I've tried on 11.64, 12.14 and 12.17 and dragging texts/links to the adress bar only paste them there. If I remember correctly in the past it worked as Dave described. Maybe Opera ASA disabled this for security reasons like with autopasting from clippoard?

It's always worked to paste and go as far as I can remember, and I don't think I customised the behaviour from its default.
I actually mainly use the facility for images, where if I want to go to the source it's really quick and easy to just click on the image (only ones without embedded links of course) and drag it to the address bar, which opens the image in a new tab.

For me clicking on image and dragging only copy the image address to address bar. For opening image in a new tab I simply click on it using middle mouse button.

That only works if the image has a link though, dragging to the address bar works on any image.

That's very strange. On all older versions (11.64, 12.14, 12.17) dragging links to the address bar works as simple copy/paste, but on Opera 26 beta, 26 developer it works just as you describe and I didn't tinker with this setting (if there is one of course :P)
