How do I import bookmarks/favorites from Internet Explorer?

For the moment, you need to use Opera 12.17's import feature, and piggyback on it to get the bookmarks into Opera 22 (the new Opera Blink browser). It's an extra step, but should be do-able. I believe Opera 23 or 24 is working on importing directly from third party browsers, but it's not ready yet.

So, first you need to install Opera 12.17 (the old Opera Presto Browser). Then you need to export your favorites from Internet Explorer to a folder/file. Opera 12.17 has a bookmarks import feature. Click on Files in that Opera 12.17 browser, then Import and Export, and then Import Internet Explorer Favorites, and then select the folder/file to import.

Once you have the bookmarks in Opera 12.17, you're half way home. Now in Opera 22, activate the personal bookmarks bar by going to settings (Alt P), and putting a check in Show the Bookmarks Bar. Then click on the Opera menu (Opera logo to the upper right of the browser), go to More Tools, and click on Bookmarks Importer. That importer is specifically designed to import bookmarks from Opera 12.17 (Presto), so hopefully you can move the bookmarks there.

Now one final caution because that importer has occasionally been temperamental, and the import feature "greyed out," not usable. Here's a thread to look at. https://forums.opera.com/topic/2839/new-install-but-no-bookmarks-import/16

Pay attention to the response by leocg near the end of the thread. He explains how it's preferable to install Opera 12 on your computer, before installing Opera 21 (at this point in time, it would be Opera 22). So if you've already Opera 22 on your computer, completely uninstall it first. Then install, Opera 12.17. Get the Favorites from Internet Explorer into it. Then install Opera 22. (There's a download location on the Opera website for Opera 12.17, as well as for the latest Opera (version 22).

Anyway, I hope this is enough to get you going.

One correction in the third paragraph of my post above.

Then click on the Opera menu (Opera logo to the upper left [NOT the right] of the browser), and the rest is okay --

go to More Tools, and click on Bookmarks Importer. That importer is specifically designed to import bookmarks from Opera 12.17 (Presto), so hopefully you can move the bookmarks there.
