Hello, I'm looking to set up hotkeys which link to bookmarks on a new version of opera. I have an older one (12 I think) where I have hotkeys which can do things such as "Go to nickname "BOOKMARK" & Switch to next page" but I cannot find any way to do something like that on the newer versions. I assume that they wouldn't just get rid of such a helpful function, so I wondered if anyone could point out where to find it for me?

      Cheers!

It's not eliminating a feature, you like. It's starting over reprogramming a different browser engine (Blink). That's what has happened, because the old engine (Presto) was out of date, too slow, not capable of accessing a wider range of websites. There are some keyboard shortcuts in the new Opera, but they are somewhat limited, and you can find them in the Opera 21 Help menu. Now there are extensions in the Opera add-on store, and the Chrome store, and it doesn't hurt to see what's there. One extension that you can use to program the keyboard to do a lot of things is Vimium. Maybe it can't do exactly what you want, but then again, it might be able to do some things you could never dream of doing via keyboard with the old Opera, and might well like to. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vimium/dbepggeogbaibhgnhhndojpepiihcmeb?hl=en

To download and install a Chrome extension though, you need the Opera extensions, called, "Download Chrome Extension."

I think it's not possible to create such complex key commands, with parameters like bookmark nickname. You can set or change hotkeys for basic parameterless commands, such as close active tab (Ctrl+W) or show history. We've done that by manually editing the file Preferences - see the example.

It's a bit disappointing to find that Opera have abandoned something so handy. That Vimium thing is a bit of an improvement, but it's still very limited compared to what Opera used to be capable of.

Does anyone know any other browsers which are able to do similar things to the older versions of Opera?

              Cheers
