After switching to Opera from Firefox and Chrome, I was disappointed to find that not only is there no extension in the Opera Add-Ons Store for Ecosia, you cannot set default search engines from third-party websites! You'd better like the default options. Who are you, Safari? Why has this issue not been fixed? I would love an answer.

@sapp-hire There is nothing to be fixed, they decided a long ago that only pre-defined search engines can be set as default one.

@leocg Have the devs ever given a clear reason for this? Isn't this forum the intended place for people to give feedback and suggest changes/features?

There are dozens of threads requesting this, going back more than a decade, usually closed without any consideration or comment. Other browsers allow full customizability for default search engines, and "type a prefix every time you search" is so inconvenient that I'm considering uninstalling OGX and moving to something else.

@MikeOShay Back on when it was implemented, they said it was for security reasons.
