Search engine freedom to me sounds like this:
ability to delete some of the default search engines, add custom search engine (plus, ability to set is as default). -

@opera-browser-user In terms of search engine, we don't plan currently any changes. However, as always, thanks for feedback.

@Mlipka I used to use Opera a long time ago when they developed their own browser. Thought I would give it a try again since it is Chromium based. Saw right away that I could not remove search engines. Searched. Found this post.
This and the fact that Opera wants to track everything I do is why I will be uninstalling. I know, cry me a river right? I'm also a 40 year tech professional. I am going to bad mouth this garbage browser every chance I get. -

I don't know what you mean by:
Opera wants to track everything I do
It's significant generalization. You can read more in this thread: https://forums.opera.com/topic/85879/does-opera-air-send-back-user-data/5Especially this part:
*Here's an official reply from our Data Protection officer:Opera Air collects certain types of data according to our Privacy Statement for the purposes of delivering relevant advertising and personalized content, only with the user’s consent. Even when data is collected, it is never enough data to be able to identify an individual user in any practical way. If users don’t wish to share such data, they can disable all data sharing through the browser settings, under Privacy and security > Privacy consent settings. By disabling those options, Opera Air sends no data outside simple functionality data, which is anonymous and not associated with the user.*
BTW
Everybody has a right to share their opinion, but we should also respect each other while doing that. You're not forced to use our browsers in any way; however, please maintain a proper level of conversation and don't disrespect the work of people who put a lot of effort into bringing it to life.
