VPN stopped working two weeks ago

Hi all,
I use slackware 14.2 as the main engine on the desktop - I know its old, but i have for as much as i can kept opera as upto date as possible, but stopped being able to do this and have the highest version of opeara that will still work, which is opera-78.0.4093.112.
All has been fine then suddenly the VPN stopped downloading or loading pages, the loading icon just spins round-and-round. But the connecting to the servers world wide seems to be ok.
Does anyone have a clue abourt this? Yeah I know that moving to a bewer version of slackware should be th way to go, however it seems that my sight prefers htk2 over gtk 3.
