A sad goodbye

A sad goodbye to Opera.
First Lastpass stopped working on Opera, it works fine on Chrome, Firefox and Brave, two of which use the same core as Opera so it seems the issue is with Opera. Lastpass do not offer any support unless you pay them so that is a dead end.
Next we have memory and CPU, if I use Opera with only a few tabs it starts to make my laptop go slow until I terminate the application. There as so many Opera processes that it makes we wonder if memory and processes are being released when tabs are closed.
As if these were not enough there is a problem with the Opera VPN. Basically too many sites won't work with it, yet they will work with some of the free VPN extensions and those extensions are accurate about the country they are from. I think it was a big mistake for Opera to register the IP pool it uses as belonging to Opera VPN, it just makes it easy for organisations to blacklist the lot.
Things like Google Captcha do not work, sometimes I can't even get to the login screen of a site.
Hotmail also does not work with Opera VPN, I uses hotmail email mostly for updates from online sites and have fallen behind on some important ones because of Opera.
I might have put up with these errors for several months. I am on Win7 but that is required because of other software I need that does not work with Win10 for security reasons (the whole platform is a browser taking personal data). So I had a choice stay with Win7 or move to Linux, the latter is complex but may be the way I go in the long term.
I really liked Opera but I can't put up with this when if I just export the bookmarks and add same extensions I can be up and running with Brave in an hour.
If only Lastpass and Hotmail worked I might have tolerated the rest. I also noted that if I terminated Opera from the Task Manager Lastpass remained logged in despite my settings to the contrary. So I was logged in to the vault but could not use the toolbar, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
I think it was a big mistake for Opera to move away from it's own platform to Google Chrome codebase.
Thanks to the devs for work done so far, I hope you resolve these issues. Maybe assign 50% of your Devs to Chrome version and 50% to a new thinner, smarter and lighter Opera Browser.

I am on Win7
The last version of Opera that supported Win7 is old, obsolete and not supported. It was only a matter of time before things started breaking in it. And, of course, you get no fixes or improvements that way. Definitely unfortunate.
Firefox ESR is probably your best bet for Windows 7.

@OperaUser42 First, and quick: Opera works fine with Hotmail. I use it nearly every day. Also Captcha (which I despise: Are a few pixels of a review mirror still part of the car?). And if I were to bet, I would bet that LastPass would work also.
Win7 was announced 15 years ago. Do you work for an organization that thinks that Windows 7 is highly secure??? I dunno. I would suspect that if you are told -- or if you think -- you need only Win7 or Linux, something is missing from the story.
You might find some Netscape around (a great browser, by the way). Sorry. I'm not feeling particularly sympathetic.

@OperaUser42 blah
FIRST AND QUICK my version of Opera which is the latest for my device DOES NOT WORK WITH HOTMAIL, you have no evidence to the contrary.
Next you LIE or mislead about Captcha, oh I should have posted one of the plethora of videos that show Capcha does not work, then you belittle me a disabled user suggesting that I must have missed some sort of rear view mirror. It is interesting that eBay dumped Google Capcha in favour of the disability friendly Hcaptcha.
Then on the basis of your previous FALSE assertions you demean further saying you WOULD BET that lastpass works too, insinuating that it is ME, which is nothing more than gas lighting.
Then in an attempt to dismiss me completely you start ranting about when Win7 was announced, not ceased being sold, not ceased being supported officially (it still gets updates and is still licensed for use by some Gov departments who wish to continue using it and Microsoft continues to provide security updates for them which ultimately roll out to me as and when).
To be clear, Win7 End of life was January 14, 2020, just 5 years ago but colleagues in Gov tell me they still use it as a platform in some departments, maybe in a locked down terminal services because their negotiated licensing included that or they are using software that can't be upgraded and is important for important or critical projects.
Then you make accusations about Win7 security, has Microsoft EVER released software that is secure? NO
Is Win10 secure, NO
Is Win10 and advertising platform that demands an online account (unless you know how to hack it) and uses that account to gather data and breach your GDPR privacy rights by asserting that it has a legitimate interest then sharing your data with hundreds of partners who then go on to share with their thousands of customers) YES
To be fair, has IOS rushed out security patches because vulnerabilities have been found? YES
Are Linux in all it's variants 100% secure? NO
So there IS NO SECURITY in any operating system, even if you buy all the antivirus software (some of which is itself spyware that provides data to certain authoritarian states).
Of course one can take mitigation practices or just accept that there is no security and we are probably not important enough to worry about.
My use of Win7 is quite simple, I depend on software that has not and will not be ported to Win10 or any other platform. I have tried numerous methods including dual boot, virtual instances but these are impractical. I tried different hardware but due to current manufacturing methods I could not use the keyboard. So I am stuck with Win7, I have even tried to use Linux with a virtual machine but I could not find one that could operate with 8gb of ram.
I tried Lastpass support which does not exist, the only response I had from them was to use another browser. So I tried BRAVE which is based on the same core software with all the google spyware allegedly ripped out and it works with Lastpass. I prefer Opera, but if Opera decline to support what else can I do.
Oh and before you denigrate me further about using words like spyware, I saw them all evolve, starting with Google search, then the Google Toolbars in other browsers, then Google itself a browser with built in data analysis and phone home software. Ironically they all do this as has been shown when wireshark was used on OpenWRT router.
Of course you are not sympathetic, it is far easier BLAME THE VICTIM than be selfless and try to help people. Don't worry it is entirely normal to develop selfishness as a survival technique during adolescence. Just like zits caused by too many hormones it usually balances out, except for some people who feel inferior and try to boost their own sense of self importance by attacking others. Such types often evolve into keyboard warriors or trolls unless they get some help and participate in a loving relationship which often seems to have been lacking in their youth or they may have a condition defined in DSM-V.
The general rule that I follow is that if I can't help with a thread I DO NOT POST. If I found a solution to this issue I might then be in a position to help others and so I would try to help. I have no need to try to feel smart by denigrating others, we are all on a knowledge journey and each take different routes. I don't feel I am in competition, so I help anyone I can.
There is one thing that you said that is true, one hundred percent true, it is unquestionably true, it was when you said "I dunno" that is true and correct, you don't know. Some people call this ignorance, but even if they are right just remember we are all born ignorant and remain so in one subject or another until the day we die.

Thanks burnout426, I tried to upvote but I lack reputation. I will give that a go. oh and I will have to wait 600 seconds until I have some reputation.
Maybe that will be the new currency, reputation, usefulness
