For some reason I cannot find the "Show Menu Bar" option in the O menu on this laptop, which, being rather a dramatic change to have gone unreported, I assume to be a bug of some kind.

Generally, when a function or feature is removed from a browser, it remains accessible by other means, such as a shortcut, about:config or something to that effect. Does anyone know how I might access the menu bar WITHOUT using the "Show Menu Bar" option in the O menu? I am trying to save a session of some sixty webpages, so reinstalling or anything to that effect is out of the question.

There is no traditional menu bar in Opera since version 15, as is the case with Google Chrome.
I don't think there's any way of manually saving sessions anyway.
If you go to settings on the main menu you can select the browser to open with a specific set of pages, and you can further select to use the pages that are currently open.
This should re-open the browser with your pages still displayed.
Not quite what you want I appreciate, but better than nothing!
        🙂

Thank you for you prompt reply, I shall try to macguyver something with the backup files.
I'll post how I get on in case others have this issue, as being able to save sessions was the only reason I used Opera at all.

Sessions are not present anymore, but if you right-click the tab bar you can save all the tabs as a Speed Dial folder. If you enable the bookmarks bar I believe you can also use a menu in it to add all the open tabs in one of its folders or something like that (if you can't, at least you can drag a Speed Dial folder and drop in the bookmarks bar to transfer saved pages between them easily).

You can use a Chrome extension like Session Buddy with Opera.

To download a Chrome Extension, you do need the Opera Extension, Download Chrome extension

Also, you can easily open the menu through keyboard shortcut, for most people, by just pressing the alt key. If that doesn't work, then alt + f key.

Of course, you also do it by a left click with the mouse of the opera logo in the upper left side of the browser.

That's the opera menu, not the menu bar. The menu bar is File Edit View etc etc

How many times must one say it: there is no menu bar in Opera 22. But the menu is easily opened. A flick of the alt key in most cases can do it. it's like, simple.

It's called nit-picking and the naysayers excel in this game.

I don't know who you're answering, let alone getting upset doing so, but nobody asked where the only remaining button in the client was located, nor how to activate said button. Perhaps you'd be better off using Safari on an iProduct if you accept signature features being removed from software. I, for one, do not.

Why, I was answerinf you, @derangedbrony. You opened the thread by saying that you couldn't find the show menu bar. And when people told you there was none, you kept asserting what the menu bar was, as if there was one. As if . . .

I have no problem with the feature being removed. It was! Indeed, I'm happy with it, gone, finis, history. I'm prefer to have the extra browser real estate, particularly when it's so simple to open the menu that even a brain-challenged person can do it by a mere touch of the alt key :))). Or alt. f. I know you can handle that. It's not too much for you.

Clearly, I have had no trouble locating the only button left in the client, the O menu.

Clearly, I am not after the established multiplatform feature now more than a quarter century old known as the menu bar. Nobody needs to assert what the menu bar is any more than anyone needs to assert what a GUI is. Both have been quite clear for a good many years, irrespective of your opinion thereof.
I was pointing out --something I find myself forced to now do in even greater detail-- that far from asking something as assinine as the location of the only remaining button in the interface, my search was for a particular option IN that button's menu. Specifically, whether the absence of that option was the result of deliberate removal, or indicative of a client-side problem :
being rather a dramatic change to have gone unreported, I assume [the missing option] to be a bug of some kind.

I hope by now some low-wattage bulbs have come on for you, as I cannot envision dumbing this down any further. Noone is asking about your beloved O menu, nobody indicated wanting to know about desktop real-estate, and even less people indicated an interest in your opinion of being able to cram a quarter inch more porn or two whole extra lines of Dr. Seuss into your screen without the clearly devastating effort of scrolling. What moves you to reitterate which key opens the menu I specifically and repeatedly stated I am NOT looking for, is beyond me. I suppose I could return such unsollicited "help" with something trite like reminding you that geocentrism is well and truely disproven, or that Goldilocks & the Three Bears was not an autobiographical account of historical events. Utterly useless utterances akin to yours, but then I gather that was your intent?

You seem, derangedbrony, as your name would suggest, quite brain-challenged. I commiserate with the dilemma that must be yours every blessed day. Enough with this thread. There is no show menu bar in the menu! You hear that? You understand? How many times does one have to reiterate that basic, primitive, essential point, to sink into your head. Enough with this, empty palaver of yours, going every which direction, but more importantly, nowhere. Life is too valuable. Enjoy the sunshine. Smell the roses. Better yet, press the alt key, and my good person for the keyboard shortcut that I would design, do the world a favor and, like a phantom in a nocturnal dream, counting our blessings, be gone. Let the forum of some other browser -- lol, one that has a "show menu bar" -- cogitate on your musings 😉 if they have the patience that Job and I lack.

Scarcely believable, but yet again, the adage "the fool blames the mirror" proves true.

Let's hope third time's the charm. And thrice upon that for good measure, perhaps one of the nine will serve to illustrate what you appear to be wilfully barring from your reasoning.

I am NOT looking for the O menu. I am NOT looking for the O menu. I am NOT looking for the O menu.

Tell me again how to access the menu I am NOT looking for. Go ahead. By all means don't read the question you rush to answer; and when corrected on that point, by all means stick to dogmatically answering a question nobody asked. Veeeeeery useful.

Meanwhile, I have found a way to return this functionality to the client using the backup files, and will be posting the howto next weekend for anyone interested.

Actually this isn't the only complaint I've seen about it and it is a huge issue to me. Ever since the introduction of the "O" button there has been an option to show menu bar for those of us who downloaded Opera to use Opera not Google Chrome. I'm still using Opera 12 (regardless of the compatibility issues) since the new Opera removed the option to use it as Opera. Just stumbled on this thread as I was looking up whether or not the Opera Browser function had been restored in a later update.

@lem729, if I'm not mistaken, cyber bullying is a criminal offense these days.
