going to stop raging about the fact that 80% of the interface works about 50% of the time. don't have any real faith left in the development team anymore. cheers on your broken browser. maybe if you guys spent about 5 minutes more on actually working on your browser instead of censoring crriticism on your forum, maybe we'd have a working browser

Hi All,
I want to say thank you in advance for any and all assistance that you're able to provide me. I'm on a M1 Max 16 inch MBP running the latest version of MacOS Sonoma and using Opera as my default browser. The first issue I'm having is that every time I open Opera it pops up wanting me to synchronize the bookmarks, passwords, etc even though I already am logged into the browser with my Opera account and I already have it enabled to synch everything that I need it to synch. Is there any way to keep this from popping up? It's really getting annoying to me. My second issue has to do with how the browser window opens. The browser opens with maybe an inch of the top of the browser window showing above the dock on the bottom of the screen. I have to click and drag it up in order to maximize the window to the point to where it is usable for me. Is there any way to fix this please?

I'm going to stop using opera, because I'm losing control over basig features, and can't find anything in the help search,
For example I can't see the scroll bar any more, it's too narrow and I can't find out how to fix it - scroll bar does not appear in the general settings, and the help search provides no results.
I have to create a personal account and consent to my data being collected in order to ask a question or provide feedback.
The developers of Opera have disappeared behind an unnavigable mess.
It's too complicated, too many features, too hard to find out how to get back to a basic clean interface.
I started using Opera because I found it more simple and intuitive to use than other browsers. Not any more.

Please, Opera Browser, stop your campaign to try and become my default browser! It's not going to happen, and it's just very annoying! (just like that captcha I just had to complete)

Can no longer put up with the intrusive, invasive, indiscrete and just downright annoying blaring trumpet fanfare just because Opera has done nothing more than should be expected, that is providing a program update.
And the sloppy programming practice of creating a new version folder for each update makes for an bloated untidy Program Files/Opera sub-folder structure.
Enough is enough.

Opera Developer has gotten rid of launcher.exe (if you do a fresh install) and has opera.exe in root of the install folder now so that the path to opera.exe (used for various things) never changes. That's a little improvement at least. Also, in the future, Opera might make it so there's always only one version folder to keep things tidy. Would definitely be nice.

@leocg tried Brave on the test site and got these results;
Our tests indicate that you have strong protection against Web tracking. Is Your Browser:
Blocking tracking ads? Yes
Blocking invisible trackers? Yes
Protecting you from fingerprinting? ◕ your browser has a randomized fingerprint -

@leocg Generally I'm pretty impressed with Opera One on macOS 14.4.1. Its worlds away, as I guess we should expect, from the first time I tried it back in 2017.
Unfortunately it will still need to go a little further with security features as it currently does not block "fingerprinting" as some others like Brave browser does.
In all other respects I'm liking it more and more.
The Aria AI is cool, I was surprised when I highlighted some text in Indonesian to get a popup notification offering to translate to English by Aria amongst other options like "look up" and more.
Basically it's easy to setup and use and easy on the eye.
It's system resource use is fairly low although not as low as some.
I would consider it as a default browser if the fingerprinting issue was addressed in Security and Privacy settings. -

I found a few big cons in Opera for me, this was the reason, why I deinstalled it:
- Can't clear browsing data on exit.
- Can't create apps for websites like in edge.
- Browser doesn't close when the last tab is closed, and there is no option for it.
- Lack of customizability. (Like move around objects everywhere and change anything how you like it)
- Too round interface.
What I found good (in comparison to Edge): - Not mandatory synchronization.
- No edge's red dot of doom.
- Flow.
- Free VPN, but it would be good if we had a button for it on the search bar or side bar.
Though your browser is better than edge on android, I didn't find any big cons, so I still stay with opera on my phone.

I am leaving Opera because it does not save Passwords in Sonoma. Bye Bye.

This is feedback.
Hello guys! I tried Opera and Opera dev and they are perfect!
(I will give you some of my favorite features Opera/Opera Dev has.)
- VPN
- Aria
- Workspaces (reason: no need for workspace extensions when you have OPERA!)

I have been using opera for nearly 20 years. I like many of its features. One of these is the speed dial feature. It allows me to quickly access news in my area of interest. However, there are also sites that make clickbait news that I do not want to see here. I want to be able to manage these news sources. I want to have an area where I can select news sources. Thank you for your interest.

@mushin i've figured it out... It's just the way Opera handles the tabs... If you close opera from the "Close"(X) button -> all tabs are closed.
If you quit opera through Alt+F4 or CMD+Q on Mac, all tabs are stored... I can't understand who thought of that behaviour, it's really weird but it's like that. -

The User Experience on this browser has been an absolute catastrophe. This is one of the worst User Experiences ever and I can only imagine it turns people away all the time. I don't know how the Opera Marketing Team has the gall to claim that this is a superior browsing experience to literally any other browser. I'd honestly rather use Safari and, as a developer myself, that's saying a hell of a lot. No, I'll go further, I'd rather use Edge Browser.
To summarise my experience:
- The automatic import from Chrome didn't work. Didn't bring anything over except a handful of Bookmarks (not even all of them).
- Manually importing my passwords through CSV says that it worked, and tells me how many passwords it imported, but then the Password Manager remains empty.
- To get around that I set up LastPass and installed it as an extension but (you'll see this is a theme) any time that I close my browser I have to log in again completely.
- I have the browser set up to remember my last session, but not only does it not do that, it doesn't even keep me logged in. I have to log back in to the browser every time I open it.
- The Sync options will not work, I'm asked to sign in (again) to activate sync but then when I do sign in, nothing happens.
- The Tab Islands are a nice feature but they're trumped completely by Chrome's Tab Groups which allow you to customise the colours and the text in the tab, for actual organisation. Having several randomly-coloured tab islands is not at all useful for finding what you want again later. Even just changing this colour would make it a bit more useful, but of course that's not an option.
- Workspaces would be a feasible alternative but, again, whenever I close the browser, my workspaces vanish.
- I like the built-in player but, again, it forgets me when the browser closes.
- I like the idea of having AI easily accessible from the sidebar and since I pay for ChatGPT I figured I'd use the built-in ChatGPT feature. I think you know where this is going. It doesn't work. The pop-out that opens just crashes.
- I like to be able to hover a tab and see what's on there to quickly find what I'm looking for again. Chrome does this beautifully with a little pop-out tooltip. The Opera version of tab previewing is a massive ugly modal that covers the page you're currently looking at and 9/10 just says "Preview not available"
I could honestly go on but I'll leave it there. This is a shoddy poorly-built excuse for a browser and I'm just aghast at the contrast between how they market it and the actual user experience.
I do know that it's a much better experience on PC, but to just blatantly overlook the experience for everyone on Mac is mind-blowing.How do you all cope using it on Mac? Do you just not use any Quality-of-life browser features at all? Have you all had to hack together workarounds? I'm genuinely curious to know what people love about it, especially on this iOS where support for it is clearly the lowest possible priority.

Opera has been my browser for many years, but that's going to change. It's just too prone to break down. True, I can usually fix the problems, but why should that be necessary so often?
Face it, Opera is unreliable, and my experience is that it has to be re-installed every few months to keep operating properly.
Opera is pretty, and it's fast, but that last reinstallation did it for me. I'm now going to look for a browser that will function for years without having to be reinstalled.
PS: Oh, yeah, I also want a browser that is recognized everywhere.

Annoying bugs:
-
If I select the address bar and then click on in again, the second click doesn't work. Neither do any of them if I try again and again and again. I have to click somewhere else and to be able to click the address bar again, and after I do that, the process repeat.
-
Can't drag files from the download list or download page, and this is really annoying since Chrome can do it perfectly.
Using a desktop i3 10100 computer running Windows 10 64bits, 16Gb RAM.
Regards.

@thedoubletap First, thank you for documenting so well. Second, you're a brave person (Using Edge). Third...
I guess I don't really have a third, but I will echo - Opera needs some serious work.Let me tell you about my divorce because of Opera...
I am a bad browser. I will have many, many tabs open. Some will be in Tab Islands. Many of those will be there accidentally. Other, related tabs, will be off on their own, in shark infested waters, I guess.
I will wind up opening additional windows, thinking this will help me organize... i.e.,- email-related tabs wind up at one side of one window... but every link clicked on, winds up in that same window.
- Another window will have tabs to AI image generation, AI chats, AI news, and random links from those tabs.
- Another window will have social media things
- Another window will have other technical, programming, etc.
- Aaand another one will have electronics, etc.
I usually wind up with links spread sporadically across all of them... all windows will have some YT video, the Social Media one will have login tabs for banking or AI chat. The AI one will have tabs for "X", it's all just 'orible.
My memory is full. I mean, really full. Like, 10 pounds of manure in a 4 pound sack, full. 471 tabs across 5 windows? Oh... not counting the Private window.
And periodically, I try to at least inventory. I can't save a window's worth of tabs, like in any regular browser. No. I have to save a windows worth of tabs to a speed dial. That's it's own type of insanity.
"But that's OK, because you can just move speed dials to bookmarks!" Argh. That's total insanity.Although... I did (just) learn that I can open a bookmarks TAB, and, I can export the whole shebang to a file and edit it IN an external text editor, to get my bookmarks from the speed dial tabs.
Insanity.
So, I figure I'll try Workspaces again. Tried 'em before, didn't understand the concept, so, quit. Read a bit on it, "maybe workspaces can be used kind of like profiles!"
Spend hours (sob) setting up workspaces for the organization I was trying to get. I'm thinking, "Hey, I know it's not really documented WHY they are or WHAT they do, but somebody said this worked for them..."
I should have inventoried everything before I started - but I was brave - and besides, I was maybe a hours away from Opera expiring on it's own and being so full of tabs that it takes 20 minutes to reopen.
Set up 5 general workspaces, to generally match what should have been organized in the windows, but hey, I'm not that good.
Spend hours weeding through and sending tab islands to the proper window, and assigning to specific workspaces. Hey, I'm beginning to like the idea!
Wow, got all Social stuff with all email stuff with ... basically, any signin not otherwise aligned.
Got all my AI stuff declared to the AI workspace and in the same window.
Etc., etc.
I'm keeping an eye on my memory... it's inching higher still... the Opera windows freeze for a few seconds in between operations... the outlines haunting me like ghosts. Reproachful ghosts.
Okay, time for the big experiment. Close two windows... memory comes down. Close the media/email one... memory goes down. Close the tech/battery/whatever window. Only AI left open. Cool!
If Workspaces work the way described, I should be able to shut Opera down, bring it back up, and go to any workspace, retrieve all the tabs saved to that workspace, in the last state, log-ins and all, and be merrily on my way using oh... 30% of the memory I was?
Open Opera. Ok. AI tabs. Now. Open a fresh window, and Click another workspace.
Nothing.
Nothing?
nothing!?
A different workspace. A couple of tabs. Correct topics, but only 5 or 7 out of the 60 or so that were assigned to that workspace?!
A different workspace. Nothing.I'm not against grown men showing emotion. I cry when dogs die. I shed a tear for friends who have passed. I sniffle over how much I love my kids.
Opera has caused a grown man to break down in sobs of agony, writhing on the floor, kicking the computer desk, over turning the chair, causing his wife to come running to see what happened.... all she sees is a grown man weeping openly, tearing out great handfuls of his hair.
"Who died?! What great tragedy has befallen us?!!" She's starting to get frantic, tearing up, expecting the worst, ready to rend her garments and join her husband in whatever fresh hell has been visited upon our family! "What is it, husband mine?"
"Opera," I manage to whisper, croaking out the cause of my pain, through cracked lips. "It's... Opera."
She's confused. She's wondering if it's a tragic opera I'm comparing life to.
She is wondering if we're broke, destitute, penniless, if we'll be cast out into the snow next month (We're in May, in the 35th degree latitudes... it'll be hot soon).
"My browser crapped out, I lost all my hard-won tabs. It's gone. It's all gone." (For me, "crapped out" is pretty strong language, in front of my wife.)
She knows beans about my computer. Or my browser. And I should probably delete my history, but anyway.
"What?" She's still concerned, but now she's concerned about if it would be considered justifiable homicide, and, if she can get the blood stains out, could she turn the room into a sewing room or something.
Okay... it turns out I didn't divorced. Only a broken arm and a couple bruises.
But I blame it all on Opera.
