Most Desired Features That Need To Come Back

Yes, but it's too easy to keep posting requests (demands in some cases) for features without knowing or appreciating the work the Opera team are doing. Plus everyone has specific features they like, which ones to implement first?
Appreciating? I'm totally not appreciating Opera's leadership inability to admit that one of their managers (who probably never uses Opera himself and has very little knowledge of IT) made a mistake.
So now just for the sake that his ego doesn't get messed, we all have to put up with this c#ap of the product? Other Opera's employees are simply afraid (with a good reason) to say to their boss that his idea is pure s#it.
When is this man finally going to step back and admit that it's time to close down his "genial project"?

Thanks for your post, Cozza. Opera 20 is fast, enjoyable to use. I'm glad the developers have made an effort to update the browser with the blink engine. I think the speed dial is awesome. I'm also delighted to have access , not just to the Opera extensions, but to the Chrome ones. As for more features, it takes time. Some of it can be done by extension -- more of which will be -- for sure -- coming. It's nice to see users, who are positive about the change, and not depressingly down. Constant griping in opera, as in life, is Not good for anyone, and will end up poisoning the forum, and destroying everyone's pleasure, including new users, who are giving Opera a try. There are places here for explaining what you want and why in a positive way. The change has been made.

Oh, I fully appreciate what they are doing, I'm a software developer myself. That's why I'm keeping my dream features list a lot smaller than it could be.

For me sync is the thing I'm missing most. At first I felt a bit miffed not to have bookmarks, but I found the "Simple Bookmarks" extension and that's doing everything I need. I actually have found myself using Stash more and more.
However as I use multiple machines having my tabs and bookmark bar synced between them would be excellent.
A Linux version would be welcome also.

When is this man finally going to step back and admit that it's time to close down his "genial project"?And who, specifically, might that all-powerful manager be? In other words, you're purely guessing, based on your own pet theories, right? Because what you're claiming is at odds with what Opera itself and its developers have actually said about how the decision to change to Blink came about.

Came to Opera from Firefox. So far it's okay. There is one GLARING omission that I use all the time in Firefox: PRINT PREVIEW. They also had a great add-on, Print Edit, that lets you edit out the extraneous junk like ads and such that you don't want to waste your ink on. It looks like older versions of Opera had print preview? But from what I've read here, the older versions have quite a few problems now?
As for Bookmarks, I use them, quite a lot and definitely would want to organize them into folders. As I'm new to Opera, I can't say if the features in 20 will meet this need or not.

Coming back to opera after the firefox fiasco. Originally switched from Opera because key sites I needed for work would often not render. On the regular version still had problems but using the "Opera Next" version 21 the one site I still need to access that wasn't working now is functional! That is great but what a shock with so many of the old features missing. Hopefully they can be rebuilt fairly quickly.
My highest priority for returning features would be to get the Sync working. Hopefully to the point that Extensions, Speed Dial, Bookmarks, Settings, Passwords, and History can sync. It would also be nice if the Extension settings could sync.
Another thing I would like would be the ability to add functional Icons to the top bar (Print, Print preview, Screen capture, Zoom) I am sure that others have other features they would like to do that with as well.
Drag and drop onto the speed dial rather than it sometimes doing drag and open would be nice.
I would also like more tab options but I anticipate that they are already working on that.

I'm reasonably new to Opera but Speed Dial is getting slower and slower as I add more sites. I can easily see it bogging down my entire system as my favs (or bookmarks) increase.
Since I don't know what was in previous versions it's hard to contrast or compare, but what I'm finding is that Opera is reasonably fast, crashes often, sometimes loads video, sometimes not. Sometimes does what I want, sometimes not. I can click on a link and it'll do nothing. I've never had a browser do that before. There aren't tons of problems but it's clearly not top of the line.
Firefox and Chrome are far more stable. Google loads in silly Google pictures on its opening page which bog down my system. I don't want those pics but I want the search engine.

Don't add all bookmarks to the Speed Dial — use the Bookmarks Bar.
Use Speed Dial only for those sites that you visit daily and for which you need instant access. Twenty-five or thirty-six is plenty of speed dials slots. Much more than that and it starts to become slow dial.

You can drag and drop bookmarks from the personal toolbar to the speed dial, and vice versa.

I think the key in keeping the Speed Dial "speedy" has been addressed by Pesala (check his post). Enabling the Quick Address Bar via the settings and then dragging and dropping your bookmarked sites onto that bar will allow you to store hundreds of bookmarked sites "if" you arrange them in folders on that bar. In addition, you can nest folders within those main folders to allow for even more stored bookmarks properly categorized.

I'm an Opera user since I switched from Netscape Navigator (remember this one?). Since v15, I used 12.16 exclusively, with sometimes Chrome as backup. Today I decided to try out the new version, and hooray, extensions are back.
But many great things are missing, or impossible to find:
-the new config is a joke (or the real config menu is really, really well hidden), for example no option to disable speeddial?!?
-after looking through this thread, I didn't even bother to import my several hundred bookmarks.
-no tab groups? Easily one of the Opera features I used the most, and SO practical! Gone, but why..?? Gamebreaker right there.-it also had some problems with the "back" button, used in my eMail account, if reading a Mail, and clicking "back", it brought me not into the inbox (what I want and the old browser effortlessly did), but straight onto the homepage
I have now downloaded 12.14 again and will use it together with Chrome (which btw removed the speed dial as default setting) for the few sites that give the old Opera problems.
Opera20 is a step into the right direction, but it definitely lacks many good features. -

Opera 12.16 was the best browser there was. Opera 20 is quite the opposite. I will use Firefox until Opera goes back to a good browser.

Yes, you've told us now in several threads. Enjoy Firefox.

"In Opera 12.16 I can make any search engine the default.
Nope, that possibility was removed in that very version (12.16), to stop rogue sites/code from hijacking Opera users default search engines (You can only set the ones provided). The last version of Opera (Presto) to support setting any search engine as a users default is 12.14"Thanks for clarifying. Actually 12.16 preferences still pretends to allow you to set any engine as the default, but evidently doesn't execute the preference any more! I guess I hadn't used the facility since 12.14. I'd still prefer to use ixquick, of course, since it seems not to want to steal my soul.

I am going back to firefox even though I have to hit reload every time and it takes forever to load a page. Why?
Opera sometimes refuses to load documents from local hard disk.
It does not have bookmarks.
It will not let you configure your own editor to replace view source.
It makes you click every instance of every Java Applet before you view it.
It thinks Java Web Start is not installed.
It sometimes gets the vertical positioning of text wrong. -

Well, I'm not seeing ANY bookmark extensions updating... am I gonna have to learn how to make my own?

I found this example but it... doesn't work.
http://dev.opera.com/extensions/tut_bookmarks.htmlCan an Opera Dev please update this tutorial to work with the current bookmarks implementation, since that changed? All I get is a blank window.
As for moving tabs to the bottom of the browser... it looks like Chrome Devs pretty much said "no" to all layout customizations in the past several years. I don't give a flying patootie about my background image, I want to change my browser layout. I hope the Opera team is able to change the code enough to allow for layout changes.
Also, I wish I could put those extension buttons on the left side of the browser...
