      i keep having this service worker appear on task manager.
      what is it as it uses 50%+ cpu usage
      i end it and a while later it starts again and my pc fan starts going mental.

          It makes one wonder whether the extension is doing some crypto-currency mining... the behavior shows such symptoms.

            @burnout426 that looks to be whats causing it. i've got the udl helper as i'm always converting songs on youtube to mp3.
            at least its not something sinister. if my cpu fan starts going mental i just end task it.
            thanks

              @blackbird71

              I see the Opera extension is at https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/youtube-downloader-udl-helper/.

              For Chrome, it uses Tampermonkey and this huge user js script:

              https://unidownloader.com/src/usrjs/downloader.user.js

              It has all kinds of modules and seems to use a web assembly version of ffmpeg.

              At, https://unidownloader.com/en, there's the client app. I assume the helper extension communicates with it.

              As to whether it's safe or not, not sure.
