@veteranbadger No, only to use Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 11 for YouTube. I'm using a laptop HP Pavilion 15-eg2022na . Windows 11 Home, Intel Core i5-1235U, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD Touchscreen. This problem only started recently, say 4 weeks so I think it's an update in opera.

@veteranbadger OK I may have found the problem. I disabled the ad blocker that comes with Opera. I looked at the memory resources and it dropped back down below 1GB. I might be this that's causing the issue. I'll have to run for a while see if it stays like this.

@rasher123 for me that does not work was trying a lot of things but its still worst browser for me after recent updates for example i cant see any videos they are lagging/freezing or loading after minute i guess they dont care about amd or ryzen users so theres no other option then change a browser because at other i dont have any problems ( if we not include 4320p60 8k in 60hz ... but still it uses less memory and do not freeze like random video in hd(720p) at opera when there is just forum open nothing else then that... maybe il find a way to move all stuff from opera to chrome if not it will be sad...
My Spec:
B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
AMD Ryzen 5 3600x (4.4Ghz)
32GB Ram ( DDR4 3200 - best compatible RAM with this procesor) 16x2 in two correct sockets ( 1 slot and 3 slot)
AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB -

I confirm what Rasher123 wrote. I have the latest version of Opera One (107.0.5045.21) and the browser doesn't work well on YouTube, the previous version of Opera worked worse. However, this version 107.0.5045.21 works better, but still does not have good smoothness on YouTube. I turned off the Opera Ad Blocker extension because I also noticed that when it is turned on, Opera is slower. Please correct this mistake.

@rasher123 Have you tried using other browsers? For me, a laggy one is Safari; that's why I switched to Opera. If it's the same issue with all the browsers, then it must be something else.

@rasher123 the same issue is happened with me I did reinstall Opera but still same whenever I checked the memory usage via task manager it shows me 90% memory used by Opera.

@ishnlv I only tried Windows Edge. Like I said it uses around 800MB in memory whereas Opera is using 1.8GB.
I do think it's the ad blocker that's causing the issue. I've had it turned off now for a few days and YouTube seems to work better but I have to put up with annoying ads which is a shame.

Besides the ad blocker, consider if there are other active extensions that might be consuming excessive resources. Try disabling them one by one to identify if any other extension might be causing the issue. Since clearing the cache and resetting to default settings didn't permanently solve the issue, look into other settings that might affect performance, such as hardware acceleration. Sometimes, enabling or disabling this feature can have a significant impact on how video content is processed.

Thanks to the OP and all who has contributed to this post thus far. I have been using Opera for a few years now, was also noticing some lagging and strange "hang-up" issues with newest update. I had to resort to switching to Chrome on those problem pages (Canva and YouTube).
Thanks the Ishnlv's recommendations... my fix was switching OFF the hardware acceleration.
For those who are having a hard time finding the setting:
Menu --> Settings
In the search bar on the settings page, simply type: "hardware"
The option "Use hardware acceleration when available" should come up.Hope this helps someone!

I'm glad that my recommendation helped you. Sorry I didn't describe the process in detail.
