VPN icon disappears only temporarily

I was on VPN and I opened like 10 websites in a row in quick succession, just copy/pasting into the address bar and opening a new tab. Then, as I was browsing through the tabs, I noticed that one of them did not have the VPN icon at the left of the address bar! I think this was simply a graphical glitch, but I have to wonder if there's any chance that VPN weas not active.
After the tabs were all loaded and I was switching between them, sometimes the VPN icon for a given tab was displayed, and sometimes it was not. I was able to replicate this with 100% success rate in that browser session, with those particular tabs open. It was always the same tab that occasionally did not have the VPN icon.
I started with tabbing between 3 different tabs:
Speed_dial | Site1 | Site2
1. I had the same site open in 2 tabs, and a blank, speed dial tab open to the left of them. I started out on the rightmost of the 3 tabs. VPN icon showed.
2. I hit Ctrl+PageUp to go left 1 tab, the middle of the three tabs (Site1). VPN icon showed on that tab.
3. I hit Ctrl+PageUp to go left 1 tab, now selecting the speed dial tab. VPN icon showed.
4. I hit Ctrl+PageDown to go right one tab, selecting the same tab I had open in step (2). This time, no VPN icon showed!I repeated this process, going left and right through the tabs one at a time. Every time, the same thing happened. The middle tab sometimes displayed the VPN icon an sometimes it did not, depending on which tab I was on previously before tabbing over to it.
I go the same behavior whether I used the keyboard or the mouse to change tabs.
I also repeated the same test, but with 4 tabs instead of 3. For this second test, I added one speed dial tab to the left.
Speed_dial | Site1 | Site2 | Speed_dial
I tabbed through these again and had the same issue, where Site1 sometimes did not show the VPN icon.Sorry I didn't save any screenshots. This is so weird!
Is this likely a graphical glitch, or a potential failure in the VPN actually having activated?
