I've attempted various methods, including disabling updates through shortcuts and passing parameters in the installer, but none seem to work. After a few days, Opera automatically updates to a very unappealing user interface. Why isn't something as straightforward as "disable autoupdate" available?

This is incredibly frustrating. The UI after the update is terrible—so unattractive and distracting. I simply want a clean and efficient UI. Please consider adding an option to disable updates or providing the choice to revert to the old, effective UI.

If these options are not feasible, should I consider abandoning Opera altogether? It's disheartening to encounter these issues. Could you please avoid adding more problems for the users?

There are a bunch of ways at https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/wiki/opera/disable_updates_windows/ that you can try. Blocking connections to the update server would be best if you can find all of the Opera autoupdate domains used. autoupdate.geo.opera.com is the main one to block though.

But, just deleting opera_autoupdate.exe in the latest version folder in the install folder and deleting Opera's autoupdate tasks in the Windows tasks scheduler has always worked fine for me. If you don't also block connections to the update server though, you might still get a notification in Opera that there's a new update. But, Opera won't be able to download and automatically install it.

@burnout426 Thank you for the reply. I will try those suggested methods. Actually, I do not have an admin account on my company laptop. So, the options to disable updates are very limited. Last time, I had to install Opera through Chocolatey. I wonder why opera has to torture users so hard like that

@eyestorm32 If you can make a standalone installation to a folder on your desktop on your account, all you need to do is rename/delete opera_autoupdate.exe in the version folder in that folder on your desktop. The standalone installation doesn't add any scheduled tasks for updates etc. It doesn't make any changes to the registry either.
