removing the speed dial button

I recently started using opera. and liked it.
one of the things I liked most was the speed dial and the easy access to it via the button at the bottom of the page.
but then that button was removed and hidden behind a drop-down menu, making the use of the word "speed" just a little ironic.
so I am out of opera and back into Google.
between having the option of placing the search bar at the bottom of the page and having the option of one click access to the speed dial, what would other users have chosen? -
