[Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/Upgrade

@tinnted Well, after spending quite a bit of time setting up Vivaldi, I'm done with Opera I think. Vivaldi also has a full email client and calendar, notes, etc, and is extremely customisable. Mercedes even uses it as the default browser in some of their cars.
I've been using Opera almost since it was first released, but this latest version has been a total botch and I've got better things to do with my time than rebuild hundreds of tabs across multiple workspaces because of their buggy code...

@rex20d That's insane, clearly a serious bug. Give Vivaldi a go, bit of a learning curve, but worth it I think.

@ledsalesoz ya, vivaldi is sold option. customization is better than opera. Tab groups is better implemented with choice of different layouts. Separate search engine for private browsing is nice. Quick commands menu is cool as well but have to see how useful it is in day to day tasks. "Windows" tab in side panel is useful. Mail client is great feature if you use mail client in the first place but its not for me. Tab tiling is very useful.
What I still miss from Opera is the design. Especially new design is very minimal and clean while being functional. adblock and tracker lacks settings to tweak them in vivaldi. Workspaces on sidebar is way easier to use than to have drop down menu. Opera tab groups collapses to small button which is cool as well.
For now I will also switch over to vivaldi.
Edit: Cant seem to rearrange extension icons which is kind of lame. Side panel is very limited in functionality as well.

@tinnted Yes, I am missing the workspaces icons on the bar, much easier. The other thing I really miss is being able to highlight a piece of text and a context menu popup to copy, search etc. Especially for units translations, like miles to km etc, that's going to be a real pain to no have that.

I just needed to restart my system because of on update - again all tabs gone. I was already on the latest version which according to the changelog had some fixes for this as far I can see.
Opera is not reliable at all at the moment as it seems. Post a blog entry that stupid decisions where made, QA was not working (or probably ignored) and roll back the software. Never ever bring the shitty animations or new design back. Think about how to prevent shit like this to happen, whatever you are doing right now is not working and maybe the wrong people are making the decsisions.
That would really help to gain trust again.
Blablabla, another useless rant. Yes, I'm aware of that but it should also show how pissed I am and how important Opera is for me.

@benclendon
So, on the 100th version of the opera, all the tabs accumulated over 2 years have disappeared. It was not possible to extract from Sessions, the same empty pages. I'm going to another browser. -

Can’t say I feel sorry for any of you working with hundreds of open tabs – without having them saved as bookmarks.
Those tabs can’t be very important then.

@vegelund Great attitude. My tabs change constantly, it's totally impractical to keep backing them up as bookmarks every hour or two. The browser is supposed to retain the session, if it has a bug where it wipes both all tabs and all history, then it is a total failure as a browser. Happy using Vivaldi now...

Apparently, you are a bunch of advanced users.
How is working continuously with unsaved tabs a good plan? It's not the first time in history that software crashes. You must have thought about that contingency.
From a risk management perspective on workflow, you have failed.

@vegelund It is not about that. Sometimes you just keep tabs open that you will work on later - as a reminder.
It is - at least for me - just super annoying that I have to re-sort all my tabs to the correct workplaces from a backup. Or is there a backup that keeps all tabs on the correct workspaces? Bookmarks are something else and will not help at all if you use tabs as a 2do list/reminder.
And there is no excuse that this still happens nor that this slipped through QA - again. Or that the tab backup from Opera is useless as it seems.
You have to try harder to blame the users for this. It seems you have a different workflow as other users, don't assume everyone works like you. Or you are just trolling.

For what purpose do users here need to keep a 1000 tabs continuously open? What is on those tabs?
The lack of examples and willingness to elaborate makes me think the browser is being used for illegal activities.

@vegelund
Why are you arguing what users are doing? That has nothing to do with the issue. The last time I lost all tabs I had just around 40 open and not a single one was used for illegal activities (whatever that should be). Unbelievable. The largest workspaces I use: "youtube" with up to 20 tabs with stuff I might want to see later or again or have more information about whatever I'm watching (like wikipedia, homepages, discogs). Another one I use for buying stuff, all large shops for direct access, sometimes a lot of pages are open when I search for stuff or want to compare it, find the official specs, benchmarks, looking for howtos ... that adds up pretty fast. Overall I guess I had opened 100 tabs before the crashes, maybe sometimes a little bit more but not much. After the 2nd crash I just re-opened the most important ones and it is really annoying to fear that this will happen again.
And before some answers like:
"But You Can Do This With Bookmarks!"Yes, and you don't have to tell me what you think is the best way. I (and many others as it seems) do it differently as you and for them/me this is a more efficient workflow. And: of course I bookmark pages, but having everything you want directly open is much more convenient. Bookmarks are the 2nd level for pages I might need later again, often much later. All tabs are open for "now" and it is easier to find pages that way, at least for me. The open tabs have also a much better visual history for me.

Tip: Your YouTube account has a folder and playlist system, including a native 'Watch later' functionality.

@vegelund your are clearly not getting the reason or advantage of having the tabs open all the time. You can't compare this to bookmarks or the "watch later" list. Not at all.
Nevertheless, Opera is broken and it doesn't matter if you lose 10 or 1000 tabs or if you can use some other technology to mitigate the loss.

Same here. Had to restart as Opera would not load pages, just kept spinning. Other browsers were working fine. So, had to close/reopen Opera to resolve, but all my open tabs disappeared. Fortunately History still, surprisingly, works.
New version, v100.0, just seems to have a lot of gimmicks, poorer reliability, and takes more work to do simple things ! -

I keep losing open tabs in my browser. Disabling sync seems to help a bit, but after the last update it also cleared all my tabs.
I wrote to support about two weeks ago. Although they wrote back, but did not say anything helpful. -

I updated to 100.0.4815.54 all tabs survived the forced reboot I had last night.
Happy and still morning drunken I killed Opera with taskmanager: all tabs gone. The one I could get with ctrl shift t where a strange collection and not all as far I could see - maybe I had to go back further but there where already enough useless tabs opened in opera ... not really an option.
So, still not fixed for me.

crashes still frequent, but at least the tabs are still there and not lost anymore
