Running Windows 7 64bit and Opera Opera 95.0.4635.84.
Just being offered in existing Opera 95 browser in drop down part in menu, (That is now coloured red!), lower down it has a red dot on the left and says, "Get the latest Security Update".
(I have tried taking a screenshot of it but can't).Clicking on the link directs to Official Opera.com download page where it says, "Download Opera Browser. We recommend this version for your operating system". With a purple widget that says "Download Opera".
Yet in a 1st Feb Official Opera blog Opera say, "Opera 95 is the last version you can use with Windows 7 or 8.1".
And at opera.com/download/requirements it says, "Opera Browser requirements - Windows 10 or later".
Also clicking on menu, help, browser update it says the latest one installed is "Up to date".Now if a moderator,Opera tech type with absolute surety having full actual knowledge of the matter says that now Opera One browser is Officially being offered to Windows 7 users I will attempt to download Opera One.
I do not want take the risk of attempting to download it with it attempting to overwrite the existing Opera 95 version and wiping things out, stored passwords, bookmarks etc.
Make a back up and try it is not something I want to risk attempting, though would if now Opera One is Officially available to Win 7 users.Has Opera reconsidered and is now offering Windows 7 users the new Opera One and it will actually work?, which would be a real big deal to Windows 7 users, it would be fantastic, or is it some technical glitch?.
Maybe thinks I am running Win 10 or cannot differentiate between a Win 7 or Win 10 user. Just sees the Opera 95 browser is being used.
I don't know. It will be a disappointment if it is just a glitch.I have seen some software download sites saying that system requirements for Opera One is Win 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11. Are they wrong?.
Opera themselves have not announced this, will a Moderator/Opera tech type that is sure of the matter post a thorough reply, not particularly for my sake but for all Windows 7 users that may come here and seek guidance on this Opera forum.
Its not just prompting Win 7 users to click on and download the Opera 95 for Win 7,8 and 8.1 option lower down on the Opera download website because there is an update to Opera 95.0.4635.84. Though still Opera 95?. Does anyone at Opera know what is going on here?.

I had the red box at the top left appear yesterday too saying security update, and as original poster, downloaded from the link when security update is clicked. It does not install on win 7 x64. I'm not too fussed about the security update, but how to stop it prompting there is an update and removing the red box at top left?

@leocg For the first 30 mins browsing session with Opera 95 there is no red menu prompt, prompting to "Get the latest Security update".
Just now today after 30 mins it has reappeared.
An upgrade to Opera One would be a 'Security Update'. A browser update that would be a security update along with it.
It actually saying "Download Opera Browser", as below.Pressing on the "Get the latest Security update", prompt in the red menu buttoned sidebar brings us to the Official Opera.com download page where it says, "Download Opera Browser. We recommend this version for your operating system".
There are also other options lower down the webpage one of which is the 'Opera 95 for Win 7, 8 and 8.1' option.
Upon reaching that webpage what are Win 7 Opera 95 folks supposed to click on?, please. More explanation is needed.Are we supposed to blindly click on the purple widget that says "Download Opera".?.
No explanation as to what it is.
If it is a Security Update for Win 7 Opera 95 users GREAT!!, many of us are very well pleased, but would it not be better to label the button that Opera would like us to click with the words "Download Opera 95 Security Update". Have such a button to press on that webpage.
Would that not put folks minds at ease, when they know what actually is going on.
Not just risking what could well possibly be the case, to them, that it is somehow the Opera One browser, that initiating the process of that wrecks their existing Opera 95 browser.I cannot find anywhere in Opera blogs and places of an official announcement by Opera that there is a new June 2023 Opera 95 Security Update other than being suddenly prompted via the Opera menu section to an official Opera web page recommendation to "Download Opera".
If it is indeed a Security Update to the Opera 95 browser then fantastic, I am sure many Win 7 users are thankful to the Opera tech staff for taking the time and effort to develop this new Opera 95 update.

Thank you very much. We do appreciate it, the Win 7 users that do appreciate it that is.I see then, so clicking on Opera's recommended "Download Opera" purple widget upgrades the Opera 95, in my case Opera 95.0.4635.84. To who knows? Opera 95.0.4635.88?. Is this the case?.
I Cannot see an official Opera announcement on official Opera blogs or in a new heading on Opera Forums.
Would it not be a good idea for Opera to 'announce' these matters to Opera users?.

To let Opera users know what is 'going on'.
A new forum post headed 'New Opera 95 Security Update'. That would be fine.
Letting us know in digital print of this new Opera 95.0.4635.88 version or whatever it is.No Opera 95 user so far that I can see has said they have 'successfully' updated their Opera 95 browser with this additional new June Security Update.
There still must be thousands of Win 7 Opera 95 users, at least two of which I now know of that have received this prompt of a Opera 95 security update.I notice dave-s saying that he downloaded from the link and says he found that it would not install on win 7 x64, which is the version I am running.
(I have not risked it yet, hence my Opera forum post for more clarity from those at Opera that for sure know of this matter).
So is it the case that after going through all of this, seeking to find out what is all going on that in the end this prompt of a Security Update does not even work?.

Then many Opera browser users would face less problems that they come across.I understand in many companies that there may well be a certain level of secrecy within that company, that for propriety sake too much information spread around the entirety of the workforce is never a good thing.
Nvidia for sure keep matters under wraps. Working on a 'need to know' basis. So that rivals do not gain advantage. Many outfits do this.But oftentimes this restricted level of internal communication of what is 'going on' is then externalised to the actual end users of the goods & services. Kept out of the loop.
The end user not being given the information they need in due time for them to do the right thing, to make the right decision.Would it not have been better of Opera management to announce say a week ago in an official Opera blog and/or on a main Opera forum heading a post saying, On 27th June 2023 Opera 95 users will be offered a Security Update.
Wowwie!, many Win 7 users would go, great, and word would spread over the internet and Win 7 Opera 95 users would know in advance what 'was going on'.
A nice event for them to look forward to.

So ok it is not a security update by way of update to Opera One with the extra security that would have given.
(it was a possibility, it having lead us to a download Opera browser webpage). Saying download Opera browser.
We can accept that. I do wish Opera management considered again on that.So in ending, I assume, yet do not know for sure it is Opera's prompt to click on a purple "Download Opera" button that from the only known person to have attempted this found it did not load on to a Win 7 x64 system running Opera 95. Which also is my system.
This is where we are now.More fuller official information on this matter would be appreciated. This being something that the end user is best Informed about.

That many people would likely have done and have tried with little success, but to instead
scroll' down the webpage to the
"Download Beta and Archived browsers" Section.
Clicking on the "Opera 95. Opera for Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 link.
This then gives this Opera 95 Security Update.Please Opera management put in place better communication with your Opera browser users.

Now we have it Win 7 Opera 95 users, the amount of you that find your way to the Opera Forums site and manage to find this particular post or certain other forum posts, confirmation of what to do.Head on over to the https://www.opera.com/download webpage.
Scroll down to the "Download Beta and Archived browsers" Section. (The Beta part of that put me off).Then find the "Opera 95. Opera for Windows 7, 8 & 8.1" link. Making sure you pick the correct one, either downloading the "Offline package x32" or x64.

Very commendable, well done indeed.If I had a Senior role at Opera, having the ability to have in Opera 95 browser menu section a link to any particular webpage for folks to click on.
(In the current case a link to the opera downloads page).Instead of having Initially a link to the Opera downloads webpage I would have a link to a separate webpage that explains things to Win 7 Opera 95 users.
Giving them the information that they need to Manually perform this task.Explaining firstly that the normal upgrade function accessed via Help, Browser version, Checking for update, that this has been switched off. (Pity that, isn't it, saving all this manual installation, that is no great hardship, all is fine, just that Instructions would be handy 'before' attempting to do so).
Explaining that for any further Security Updates that come about; it will have to be done manually.
That Opera 95 users will receive a notification, as we have now started to do, in your browser menu. Red menu button with link.

'What to do'.Explaining that they need to click on the Opera downloads page, a link inserted at the bottom, saying to:

Does Opera see this?. What the Opera browser user may well do. Not having been given guidance on what to do. I believe it is fair comment. An Important matter.I'd do it the way I have just said via a separate webpage with instructions that 'then' gives them a link to the Opera downloads page, and Inform Opera 95 Users in a prominent post of the Opera Forum.

"Opera 95.0.4635.84's Menu Top Right Corner Has Turned Red". In the "Opera for Computers" and "Opera for Windows" section.
Sounds like a heck of a lot of trouble they are in after trying to download it. Wanting to add stuff to host file to get rid of the red menu button.So for now, prudence was justified. I'll give it a while, see what other say about it.
