Hi, I am a recent installer of Opera having only used it for the past approximately one month.

Fantastic experience so far, and no issues at all importing all relevant data from previous Chrome browser.

My issue only cropped up over this past week or two and being an experienced computer issue is both very odd and slightly suspicious (externally suspicious, not Opera suspicious)

As per instructions I have performed all the initial troubleshooting in the instructions post.

      Windows 10 registered OS
      Opera version 99.0.4788.65

Issue: When I go to type in either Google search or Youtube search, I will type out my search query and then the search query will be initiated using only the first two characters of my search query. I am unable to replicate this reliably, so cannot give instructions to replicate.

Other applications seem to be unaffected, this issue does not present itself whenever I type in Discord or any other non browser related application.

Slightly concerning, as it feels there may be some sort of keylogger or scraper trying to get my jeyboard inputs.

Any help would be appreciated, and I understand this is rather vague - this is just very frustrating and I am wondering if anybody can provide any clues.

Thank you for your time reading this.

I have the same issue which started in the last week or two. In my case, when I first open Opera and enter in a search in the search field om my speed dial page, the search results only have the first 2 characters of the search terms or phrase that I entered, Opening a new tap and performing the search again works fine.

Opera 99.0.4788.77 though it started at a previous 99.0.4788.x version.

Same here, I type a phrase in and only the first two letters appear. Usually when I use Google search.

I also have the exact same issue. It seems to have started when my PC updated to Opera One

@eugeneb I will type a phrase in Google and hit enter then Google will only search the first two letters.

@jackbluddite No, it is still occurring with me (OP), no responses aside from others experiencing same issue.

Update on the behavior that I am seeing.

I saw this problem running Opera 101 on Windows 10 21H2 build 19044.3086. I upgraded to Opera 102.0.4871.0. All my bookmarks and personalization disappeared so regressed to Opera 101.0.4843.42 and the problem came back, along with my bookmarks.

But I did notice that if I wait 30 seconds with the google search screen stuck at 2 characters the problem goes away. So I would think that this is a timing issue somewhere.

Have a possible solution. It had been a long time since I had cleared my browser history. Once I did that I am unable to recreate the problem.

My experience is that clearing browsing data only gives temporary relief for the various performance issues in Opera.

For this particular problem I added a Google tile to my speed dial. I just click on that to open google.com then do my search from there.

To be honest though, between this issue, the annoying startup sound that can't be turned off, and the slowly growing list of sites that just don't work right with Opera... I'm thinking of just dropping it and switching to something else as my primary browser. A real shame after over 15 years using Opera as my main browser.

I've found a method of stopping the annoying noise and delay in starting, per https://www.askvg.com/tip-disable-or-remove-opera-splash-screen-or-startup-logo/. Their methods didn't work globally, so I actually went into C:program files/opera/(release)/ and renamed the opera_gx_splash.exe file.

I have the same problem and use the same "fix". It annoyed me to the point of trying a couple of other browsers for a while but I still prefer Opera, even with the annoyance(s). I'm hoping they eventually fix it.

                                        Hello @oogla,
I just upgraded from version: 108.0.5067.29 to version 109.0.5097.68 and have not noticed the issue returning. But since the problem originally began I have added the extension "Forget Button" and set it to clear a lot whenever Opera is closed.
