Pinned tab still active when opening link

This happened suddenly yesterday. The only thing I hae done was to clear my cache.
Problem is, when I click a link in pinned tab, the pinned tab is still in focus.
Here is my pinned gmail tab. There is a link in an email. I click on it.

Image two. now I have clicked the link and a new tab opens. So far expected behavior. But the old tab is stil also marked as active.

If I close the new tab, the focus goes back to the pinned tab. This is okay. But if I don't close the new tab, and instead manually click the gmail tab again, the gmail tab will get focus and then is scrolled all the way up. This is getting really annoying.

Is there anything I can do? I tried unpinning the tabs and then I don't have this problem so for now that's what I have to do.

I don't have any extensions. And I run version 98.0.4759.15 on Windows.

I have the same problem. But I can add more information: The problem occurs every time I open new tab while a pinned tab is in focus. It could be by clicking on a link in pinned tab or just clicking on + to open completely new empty tab.

I can confirm, this is happening here as well
