This is an insanely annoying feature and honestly I hate it so much that I've registered on this forum just to voice my resentment.
Ive never been in interested in sports and my low budget , somewhat laggy phone now loads this additional rubbish. Rubbish I'm not remotely interested in.
Unless patched I will have to switch browsers, it's just too annoying for me personally to ignore.
On a side not tho, who on earth thought adding this sort of feature to an app used for mobile devices with limited space was a good idea?
"46% of Britons describe themselves as fans of football, 26% of rugby union and 20% of cricket." -Google.
So 54% of users have no choice but to have this feature despite having no interest in it. It's not optional and takes up valuable space on my navigation bar. I mean this feature is as important as an address bar for what percentage of mobile users?
This "feature" is demented.
Thankyou all
Kind regards,
Tom -

@leocg WTF?
A lot of users are rightfully upset at having that stupid football suddenly forced on them, without any means to remove it. Yet you say nothing's wrong, and it can just be ignored
You are just plain wrong. About 10% of the time, when I'm trying to access the settings, I end up clicking that stupid football, which then actively prevents me from doing what I actually need to do, until that damn scores page loads, and then I have to cancel it, and wait for the home screen to loads again.
I get that you're just a volunteer mod here, and don't actually work for Opera, but you have been placed in a position of trust. So please have a bit more respect for the genuine concerns of the users posting here. Your arrogant and dismissive attitude reflects badly on Opera, and those that have placed their trust in you, when they made you a moderator here. -

@leocg Nobody's interested in "you can use another browser nobody will stop you" and "you can get used to it". If you don't know the answer to the problem, just admit it.
The correct answer is "Unfortunately there isn't a way to remove the button yet, but you guys are right, it's a problem that needs to be solved and Opera has no choice but to get on it."
The button will be gone soon. That is the correct answer. Opera didn't get this far by not listening to any of its user input over the years, so I'm personally not worried, I'm just waiting for the inevitable.

@contrantier-0 That's not a problem, so there can't be a "answer to the problem".

@leocg If you actually felt that way, I'd be a bit mad, but you're just lazy and want to pretend nothing's wrong. Nothing you say is going anywhere bud.
Like I said, I'm not worried despite the opinion you're pretending to have. Lie all you want that it "isn't" a problem. The bug will indeed be fixed soon, I'll wait.

@jelendyb Hell with that, if unhappy users isn't a problem then what would be the point of the browser existing?

@april66 He's not "wrong", he's lying. There's a pretty big difference. But either way, his pretend opinion isn't helping anyone, that's for sure.
"Yes it is an annoying feature and they do indeed need to fix the bug that prevents removing the football icon" is not a very difficult sentence.

@mrtomski It's not a feature, it's a malfunction. The developers most likely initially intended, but later forgot to make the icon removable; hence it is a bug. That's why I'm perfectly confident that the glitch will be fixed soon; no worries over here.
Until then, I've sent a bug report to the app on the Google Play Store about the icon accidentally being left unremovable.

@april66 I have spoken to a developer of the app through the Google Play Store. They plan to fix the issue now, so no worries.

Re: Football Icon
It's not just the icon, it's the bloody irritating tickertape banner of footy results that parades across the home screen above the news section to still have activated
This means the totally unnecessary footy stuff is pushing the information I AM interested in, out of view off the bottom of page.
I should not have to readjust a customized home page every single time I open Opera.
Was it April 1st when some football-obsessed opera programmer decided to add this without any options?

@mrtomski I understand your frustration with the sports feature on your phone. It can be quite annoying when an update or feature caters to an interest that doesn't resonate with you, especially when it affects the performance of your device. It's unfortunate that your phone's limited resources are being consumed by something you don't care for, and it seems like there should be an option to disable or customize such features to better suit individual preferences. Hopefully, the developers will take feedback like yours into account and provide more flexibility in future updates.
Best Regards! -

@mrtomski I can see why the sports feature on your phone is causing you frustration. When a feature or update targets an interest that you don't share, it can be very irksome, especially if it degrades the functionality of your gadget. It's bad that something you don't like is using up your phone's limited resources, and it seems like there ought to be a way to disable or alter these functions to better fit personal tastes. With any luck, the developers will consider comments such as yours and allow more freedom in upcoming releases.
Thanks a lots!!
