you said it will close the window when the last tab is closed with multiple windows open, which it does not.
Yes, it does. And sometimes it's a problem for me because I forget about it and end up having a window closed when I didn't want that to happen.
and this is the only browser that i know of that doesnt close the windows when the last tab is closed
And that is one of the main reasons for people to prefer using Opera.

@leocg said in Close window when last tab is closed:

no it does not, i have tested it a dozen times sense you said that it does. not ones did it close the window.
but if not closing is suppose to be a positive feature according to opera, then im guessing it will never be a setting. i have also read post about it not being updated for 6+ months at a time. seem they dont really care about this browser. well i will be uninstalling the browser. its sad that such a simple setting ruins a browser with other great features.

@thegoaty I get the same behavior as @leocg. When there's only one window open, you can't close the last tab. When there are multiple windows open, you can close the last tab, which closes the window. If that action cause only one window to remain, the last tab in that remaining window will switch to being unclosable. (For Opera GX, right-click the GX Corner tab and choose "move GX corner to sidebar" so the pinned GX corner tab doesn't interfere with this behavior.)
This is all intended behavior. Opera users typically don't like the last tab to close the browser. It would be nice if there was an option to control this though, but there isn't.

@burnout426 Thank you, this is what i was looking for. kinda strange that the placement of GX corner does this. I actually completely removed the GX corner thanks to your input. i personally don't see why you wouldn't close the window with the last tab, but i'm sure there are applications where it matters.

@thegoaty I had the same issue and @leocg really made no sense, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Thank you @burnout426 because your reply actually solved the issue.

For those of you still struggling with this issue, simply move the "GX Corner" to the side bar instead of a tab at the top so when you move the last tab out of window or close it the window will now close.

Just wanted to give a solution to that problem:
If you hit ctrl + shift + w you will close the window alongside the tab (even if it's the last tab and there are no other windows open)

Everyone who still has this issue, I think someone got to it in a previous post, but there are posts after it that still are asking.
Settings: Serach for gx corner. Set it to be in the sidebar.
This removes the gx corner from the tab count, and will let the windows close when you close your tabs, I don't usually have the sidebar enabled, so it works like other browsers for me now. -

Found the solution, simply right click the controller button in the top left and move it to sidebar. That'll make it so when you close all the tabs it closes the window.
