User profuile picture no longer displayed

After the recent update Opera stopped displaying user profile picture in its toolbar. A generic "not assigned" icon is displayed instead

Clicking on the icon opens a drop-down, which also displays a generic "not assigned" profile picture

Opening the user profile details still shows the proper user profile picture.

Is this behavioir by design? What would be the reason for this change?

I see the same generic "not assigned" icon after latest update, but my concern is how to remove this icon, without sync funtionality turn off.
There is no sence to see this icon, since I don't interact with it at all.

Opera is still working on the new icon and its settings etc. Things should improve.

And also there's another thing: why the picture is so big comparing to other items in the toolbar? Its very different when you compare to Firefox, Chrome or Edge designs. It's a detail, but also bothers me a little.
