Wow, the new debug option over tcp works nice, no more hassle with USB and adb.
Kudos! (and see the power and speed of websockets)Couldn't get UPNP working, with VirtualBox on Linux and an Windows opera browser, tcp worked also in VB!

It seems you removed the option to relocate the toolbar to the bottom in the new version. It's still available on my phone but not the tablet. I really hope you bring it back. Its that option that really sets opera apart for me.
I also noticed there is no longer a way to preview all open tabs. This is really a regress in funtionality.

I think this issue is present in Chrome for Android too. Opening two 2 tabs with one My Opera topic on each and 1 tab from The Next Web + its DISQUS comments was able to make My Opera tab to reload. But I'd really like to receive a confirmation because in a subsequent test Chrome was able to handle my tab-switching better (~7 tabs). I don't even have Chrome normally installed in my phone since I can't stand it so someone else please can report to us better if the issue is really present in the "official" Google Chrome?
The closest thing to this issue I can find in Chromium bug tracker is this one:

But this bug report dates back to Chrome(ium) 18 while I only started observing this aggressive reload of open tabs in Opera 16 which is based in Chromium 29.What's weird is when I check the RAM it shows there's 200+ MB of free RAM available.
The situation for us is not THAT bad now... In Opera 16 the tabs in the background would reload completely from the network when you came back to them and if you have typed something in a text field there you'd lose it, but since the version jump to Opera 18 they're handling background tabs in the same way as Chrome, the tabs are reloaded from a local cache with all the typed text intact. So... This is an improvement in Opera's side.
Too bad it also affects the browser startup... I liked to be able to use other apps, Android RAM management killed Opera and when I come back to it the previously opened pages would reload to show the latest version like "Continue where I left off" does in the desktop. The load from local cache in that specific case (startup) is weird because for example if I had the My Opera forums main page there are new posts to topics I'm subscribed to. It's a disadvantage but maybe this is just because the web page isn't using a good technology to fetch the new posts(?). The advantage is never losing what you type in text fields and less network usage and I admire that.

These two changes have removed the two things I loved the most about Opera for Android over all other browsers.

I find this forced upgrade to Opera for Andriod 18 to have made Opera all but unusable for many of my needs now. And with the forced exporting of all data from, and the deletion of, Mobile Classic by Opera for Android, makes this browser now just a joke. It pales in comparison as to what it once was. It's the browser of No, Can't Do That, and Oops! It Doesn't work.
I gave a little rant on this in another post. But I will add two things here that I see are missing in the worst ways:
Where's the reload button?
And why can't a bookmark be saved to the home page? (Oh wait.. is it because Opera thinks we don't need bookmarks anymore?)
Funny, the links I used in Mobile Classic, open up pages in this browser without a problem.. but I can't create new ones.

Visit the page -> O Menu -> Add to Speed Dial.

Quite the opposite. That update requires additional permissions so you had to confirm it, and that's on top of the option to let an app to auto-update or not the Google Play Store gives you.

I do not think you understand. I don't want the bookmark on my Opera speed dial. I want bookmarks on my tablet home page/desktop. Mobile Classic allows for this.

I didn't have Opera for Android 18 on my tablet. Only Mobile Classic. Thus when seeing the update. It looked like one for Mobile Classic. Not O for A 18. So, like the travesty of having once installed O for A 16, everything was ported over to this, and Mobile Classic was removed. That is something I DID NOT give my concent to.

Opera 12 Mobile Classic wasn't updated to 18, it's there in the Play Store... The regular Opera 12 edition was updated.

I decided to give the "new Opera" another try to see if there's at least been some improvement, but no. It still seems to be every bit as unusable as it was six months ago: incredibly slow, poor rendering, terrible scrolling and panning, unreliable text wrapping, and still lacking even the most basic functions of a web browser, such as bookmarks. If this is the pace of progress, then I think I've lost all hope of this POS being able to catch up with Opera 12 during this decade, not to mention offer any improvement over it.

+1 sadly (and I've had a deep love for the Opera Mobile browsers over many years)

I tried a lesser known browser called Next browser and its a opera lookalike. Although I must mention that the way pages are cached in Next is definitely better than Opera. I understand that pages are pushed out of memory when it gets full but Opera takes longer to reload them, Next had the pages reloaded in a blink of an eye. Why can't Opera implement that feature?

Go Next Browser is not Chromium-based.

I can't agree.
The engine has the same problems as the stock browser in my device and it already crashed in a quick test. Not even going to judge UI and Go Team. -

we have released a bug fixing update to Opera 18. Here is the changelog:
- Chaged behaviour of action bar in tablet UI
- Fixed crash when child browser processis not fully initialized
- Fixed crash when performing search on selected text
- Fixed crash on html5 storage quota permission dialog
- Fixed crash when scrolling while selecting text in Off-Road mode
- Fixed issues with translationsUpdate is now available on Google Play, all users are recommended to update.
