Can't update Opera through my work's proxy server

Currently on 20.0.1387.82 - I gather this is not the latest version?
Opera gives an error when trying to update.
I'm on a work network and we connect to the internet via a proxy server, which connects and authenticates with our domain. So we log into the computer and those credentials authenticate to everything else including the proxy server.
This works fine with BROWSING in Opera 20 - it picks up the Internet Settings from IE/Control Panel and I can browse fine with no prompts or anything.
This is much better than Opera 12, which did not work with our proxy server at all.
However - the updating system doesn't work. Pops up with proxy authentication box but it will not accept any username or password. I've tried domain\username, FQDN\username, user@FQDN, first.last@FQDN - nothing works.
I do find it silly that browsers use a completely different system for updates than it does for browsing - we had trouble with Chrome too.

I experience the same problem at work.
I am behind a proxy server, everything works fine but the update does not.
It is really sad, as I am the only one left at my office promoting Opera, if this small issue was fixed I would go on with an additional round to convince my co-workers to use OperaI am currently on Opera 23.0.1522.75

Unfortunately, if a company enforces some policy which disables autoupdate or manual update of applications other than approved ones, it is impossible to do anything externally.
The only way is to update manually using the full installer (if possible). Or, to convince the management and company IT that Opera is on the list of positive exceptions to be installed.
