Passwords do not save from session to session

I have been using Opera for many years and have found the password auto-fill feature very convenient. Recently, that feature no longer works, and when I look up the list of saved web sites and passwords, the file is empty.
I have checked the settings for this function and they seem normal. After some experimentation, I have found that if I log onto web sites and click on "Save" when the option is offered, the passwords will be saved and I can use them to auto-fill if I go back to the same site later in the same session.
In fact, I can even open the password file and see all of the passwords I have entered in that session. However, if I shut down the computer, when I restart the auto-fill function no longer works and the password file shows as empty.
I Think that this started around the time that MS pushed a recent update to Windows 10 to my computer, but I was not paying close enough attention to be certain of that.
I have seen several other messages about password problems, but none seem quite like my issue, so any suggestions for help would be much appreciated.

This is happening for some Windows 10 users that got the 2004 update. When this happens, most of them (but not all) will experience the problem in Edge and Chrome too. Uninstalling the 2004 update might fix it. But if you do that and it works, try updating to 2004 again to see if things stay working.

See if you can find a solution first though at https://www.google.com/search?q=chrome+sessions+not+saving+since+Windows+10+2004+update?

There's a bug at https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1069383#c90 for Chrome that describes a Windows/Chromium bug that you might be experiencing. There's a suggested fix too.
The link is mentioned in this post:
