Malicious Software just appeared in my Opera Client

"Facebook Messenger" is suddenly shown in my sidebar.

Is my machine infected with a virus or is it the update server? somebody was able to sneak this malicious code into Opera GX build and it is apparently able to enable itself against the will of the end user

@acidvicious You mean the icon or the panel? If the first, you may have enabled it by accident. And if you are talking about the panel, did you go to Facebook just before the panel appeared?

@leocg I'm not sure what you mean by distinguishing between "icon" and "panel"? Maybe the panel is the thing that comes up when you click on the icon? it was the facebook messenger logo, it appeared in my sidebar between GX Control and My Flow.

I disabled it in settings like it had been previously disabled... Yet just now when booting up Opera GX I see Instagram has forced itself into my sidebar in its place. Instagram DNS isn't completely blocked by my system like facebook is, but I still don't want it and I still feel violated.

Is it malware or just an insidious problem with Opera GX being used as a Trojan to push social media companies?
