NO! I do not want to type a keyword every damn time I use my favorite search engine... I mean even Google Chrome lets you choose any search engine as a default one so why is this missing from Opera? Mobile Opera too...

This is for security reasons as far as I understand, however, like you said: For the love of God, please make it so that we can choose different search engines.
Opera bloody puts the Greek Google (.gr) as my default engine just because of the Greek IP my computer was on.
Granted, I am Greek, but I want the American or English version of google as my default engine, and I can't even have that
Let alone a different engine altogether... -

so today I've updated to the latest iteration of Opera, Version:62.0.3331.99
still no response from the mods...
still, this simple yet apparently eluding feature hasn't been implemented... -

In Opera, it appears that the default search engine list is reserved for search engines that Opera has deals with. You'd have to get your search engine and Opera to make a deal.

I feel with you! Really, Typing in this gd keyword is really a waste.. anyway, most of time i forget to do it and then I get exactly there where I do not want to be: on Google.
What kind of search engine do you use? I am using startpage and with that one you can save a link with your customisation to your bookmarks. I have three startpage links places in the most used bookmark areas. Now it works for me. Instead of using the address panel on the speed dial (deactivated) or the browser address panel, I click on that link and here we go .....

Pretty much if you like how Opera does things but want to be able to change you default search engine in the speed dial page then perhaps you might like to use Vivaldi as apparently they'll let you do it without a problem
