In Opera (only) I cannot open a file located in /home/username/.local (and subfolders) or /media/ (and subfolders). I am in ubuntu 18.04. So, jupyter notebook does not work. for ex.

Is this using Opera's own Open dialog or is the web app trying to access them itself? Opera does not allow websites to access your local file system, so if it is the app then there is nothing to do about it.

What you experience is the side effects of running a snap app. Snap apps run in a sandboxed enviroment and are not allowed to access the system's file system (e.g. the user's home folder), devices (cameras, printers etc) and more.
For that reason, snap apps have a built in permissions system, line android apps do.

So you either grand opera the permission to access your home folder, or be a sane man and install opera as a deb and use it like all the other linux apps.

@jimunderscorep said in Opera does not have access to some folders:

a built in permissions system, line like android apps do.

So you either grand grant opera the permission

            Typos everywhere 😛

thanks man, I followed https://vitux.com/how-to-install-uninstall-opera-browser-on-ubuntu/ (1st method) after uninstalling the snap version, and now works. (previously, the last method .deb didn't work, so I used snap.)
