To get flash support in opera, since you are on ubuntu

          • Install ubuntu's partner repo as described here
            https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Enabling_Canonical_Partner_Repositories
          • Install "adobe-flashplugin" from that repo
          • Open opera://settings and go to advanced > content settings > flash > and enable "allow sites to run flash".
          • Verify it here
            https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/

          Small note.
Do not install pepperflashplugin-nonfree from the main ubuntu repo. It is just poorly, maintained rubbish.

Youtube does not use flash since early 2015. All it's videos use the built in html5 capabilities of each browser and they are either in webm or h264 format.
As for the why opera prefers webm and for the why one should prefer h264 over webm when possible, please read what I have written here
                  https://forums.opera.com/topic/27537/can-t-play-facebook-videos-or-gifs-in-opera-w-linux-mint/17

Excluding youtube, 99% of the known streaming sites use html5 nowadays, so finding a site that does use flash only is a very rare situation.

As for your situation, opera 55, today on stable branch, is built on chromium 68, so it will need chromium ffmpeg codecs 68. But ubuntu upgraded chromium and its relevant packages to 69 ~10 days ago, so opera's 55 html5 support for codecs like h264 broke.
Do you know which opera is based on chromium 69? Opera 56, now on the beta branch. That is why it does work for you.

For more detailed info on chromium ffmpeg codecs and opera please read the post on my signature and the one below it.

I have the same problem every second opera update. And result 50% video on Youtube don't work, and many others video services. What's wrong? I see this problem almost one year on many linux os (mint, ubuntu, arch).
It's not flash player! Youtube and many others use html5.
Update opera and next 3 weeks you will use chrome for watching video. Great job guys! Awesome!

You are right about king.com. Flash content on opera does not work there, even with ublock disabled. Shame...
