I can't see where one can post questions, etc about Opera Mail Application (yes, the new standalone one...Opera Mail Version 1.0 Build 1040)

I've been trying to figure out how to:

      export email account settings
      import email account settings

      import labels
      export labels

Failing either of the above, is there just a file (or two) I can copy from one computer to another so that I don't have to enter in all my labels and email account settings, and set all my preferences when I get to another computer?

🙂 Is there a Opera Mail portable version ?

      Lyle

You could of course copy the entire mail folder; if you don't want to copy all the saved messages then just copy index.ini and accounts.ini. That won't copy over which messages are in which label (since you aren't copying messages after all), but it will make sure the labels exist for you.

Ok so email account settings are in the accounts.ini ? I don't mind re-entering the passwords, I actually prefer to.

and index.ini has the opera mail preferences ?

and there is no file with the labels (filters?) settings in them ? Crap, that will be a pain - I have about 20 labels....

index.ini lists everything that shows up in the sidebar panel - every "access point" in the old terminology. In the case of a rule-based filter, it should contain that as well. A filter with "learning" enabled has a separate file in the folder "autofilter" with the scoring used for the filter. (I only have one learning filter enabled - on the Spam folder - so my mail/autofilter/ folder only contains the file filter_8.ini ... where 8 is the number assigned in index.ini for the Spam access point.)

Note that some mail accounts will have a separate text file associated with them, so do look for files named incoming1.txt or outgoing5.txt or similar. I've actually only seen them for RSS and NNTP accounts (not real mail), but I'm sure I haven't seen everything.

Ok, so where is the Opera Mail directory ? It's not under Program Files or Program Files (x86) or ProgramData ?

So I'm looking inside the index.ini for the names of my filters, and the index.ini file in a mail folder ?

If I have a learning filter it will have a separate file in the autofilter folder?

Go to About Opera Mail (under Help on the menu), it'll tell you where your mail directory is. Mine (in Windows 7) is as follows:

                  C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Local\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\mail\

Thanks!!! I have IMAP and it's an internal Gigabit Connection. I'm going to play around with the opera portable app version. I'll just try the index.ini and accounts.ini. files to start.

index.ini - listed everything in the sidebar panel
filter with learning - separate file under autofilter folder called filter_###.ini

                    accounts.ini - email accounts
email accounts may also be called incoming#.txt or outgoing#.txt

                    operaprefs.ini - opera preferences

Then I'll move on to the

                    Paths
                    Preferences
                    %AppData%\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\operaprefs.ini
                    Saved session
                    %AppData%\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\sessions\autopera.win
                    Opera directory
                    %AppData%\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail
                    Mail directory
                    %AppData%\Local\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\mail

                    Lyle

Oops.. Opera Portable is not 1.0 (it's the old 12.16)

Ok. So I'll load Opera 1.0 onto my test bed machine.

                      Thanks

I can't see where one can post questions, etc about Opera Mail Application

Please post them in the Windows forum and make sure "Opera Mail" (and or "M2") is in the subject.

Is there a Opera Mail portable version ?

Click "options" in the installer, change the "install path" to the folder you want and change "install for" to "standalone installation (USB)".

s there just a file (or two) I can copy from one computer to another so that I don't have to enter in all my labels and email account settings, and set all my preferences when I get to another computer?

                          Given:

                          Program Files folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Mail\operamail.exe"

Roaming profile folder for that install: "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail"

Local profile folder for that install: "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Opera Mail\Opera Mail"

, to move an Opera Mail profile to a new computer:

                          • First, move the Roaming and Local profile folders to the same spots on the new computer.

In operaprefs.ini in the roaming profile folder, remove any line that has a path in it so that Opera uses the default path for that setting.

                          • Download the Opera Mail installer and install it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Mail".

Then, it'll be like the Opera Mail profile was always there on the new computer. All your settings, labels and everything will be in tact.

operaprefs.ini, wand.dat and contacts.adr go along with the mail folder. That's why you should just move the whole profile over. But, if you just move those 4 things over in the spots on the new compute and install Opera Mail to the same spot it was installed at on the older computer, you'll be good to go.
