I started using Opera because Chrome used a lot of resources to run and I found Opera to be quicker over all. Now Opera uses wayyy more memory according to task manager 200-500mb more than chrome, with the browsers open on the exact same page with only 1 tab open. Aside from that, the amount of bugs, incompatibilities and running old websites that have been since updated etc, I really don't see a reason to use Opera over Chrome anymore. Am I missing something here?

It depends on your preferred hierarchy of features. To me memory use is unimportant - they all use a ton (I have all the major browsers installed). The features that Opera (and Firefox) provide are better than those offered by Chrome so I do have reasons for preferring them to Chrome.

However, it's also the case that no one browser is superior to all others in all respects, so I do use Chrome in certain contexts, e.g., when doing software development at work.

Opera and Chrome should use close to the same amount of memory as they're both using Chromium. There will be some difference because of features and user interface differences though. You might also see a little difference when Opera and Chrome aren't using the exact same Chromium version. It could go either way in that case.

Yeah, I'm not sure in your case. You could hit shift + esc in each and see what the differences are.

Since Opera and Chrome both use Chromium, site compatibility should be the same besides a few proprietary media issue. That and sites detecting Opera and not giving Opera the same code Chrome gets. In the latter case, you can use an extension to mask as Chrome.

If you don't need any of the features of Opera, they're pretty much the same. So, it just a case of which one you feel like using.
