@burnout426 I dont think Fastmail likes Labels....
I opened Opera Mail
put my mouse over INBOX
right click
NEW LABEL
Named it TESTING
Right clicked on TESTING and went to properties
Went to the IMAP tab and in that box I named it TESTING
I then dragged an email into TESTING
opened up my fastmail webmail and there's nothing there called testing ? The email still shows its in the inbox

It's called a "tag" in Thunderbird. You just click the Tag button on the toolbar and pick one of the default tags to apply it to a message or selection of messages. There's a "new tag" option in there to create your own tag. For best IMAP compatibility use don't use any white-space or special characters in a tag name. Just use a-z and 0-9.

It should show that it's still in the Inbox. The message just now has the "TESTING" keyword attached to it. Fastmail should have no problem with keywords. It has been highly-tested with Opera too. I just forget if there's any UI in the webmail to make use of keywords. Fastmail doesn't have free accounts anymore, so I can't test.

@burnout426 Yes, I now see them tagged in thunderbird........
But what I do if I don't want to see them in my INBOX ? Their tagged but still in my inbox?

In Opera, you'd go in the label's properties and set "hide these messages from other views". Then for each view you didn't want to see them in, click on the "settings for this view" button on the message list toolbar and make sure "show hidden" is unchecked.
In Thunderbird, right-click on the toolbar and goto "customize". Then, drag the "views" drop-down button to the toolbar. Then, for each folder you're viewing, you can set a certain view. In this case, you'd create a custom view with the criteria "tags isn't empty".

@burnout426 For some reason that last part isn't working.... I don't know what im doing wrong... But I guess its a good thing I use O.

In Thunderbird, click the view drop-down on the toolbar, goto "customize" and then click "new". There you can create a new tag. You seem to be somewhere else messing with a filter and a header search or something.
Edit: Have to go for now.

You mean, nested? If so, they don't have to be nested. If you mean one word, then yes, for best compat. But, I forgot to mention that you should be able to get away with using _ for a space to at least make the label names look better.
The idea is to have the label name and its keyword be exactly the same. But, you don't have to. You can name the label whatever you want and just make sure the keyword has no spaces etc. The downside to that is that if a client auto-creates a label/tag based on a new keyword it recognizes, it'll use the keyword for the label/tag name, which will be different than the desired name. As in, label/tag names are synced between clients, the keywords specifically are. The difference is more of an issue in Opera than Thunderbird.
