Currently there is no way to tweak the behaviour of the default search engines when calling them from the location bar. While this is less of a problem for web searches it makes the options of calling amazon or wikipedia basically useless. e.g. amazon seems to default to amazon.com wherever you are, while wikipedia defaults to the country your in, thereby ignoring language settings and vpn.

My suggestion to fix this would be expanding the customisation options provided for manually added search engines to the default ones.

When bookmarking search engines or adding them to Speed Dial, you can put in the country code rather than .com.

          Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately that's not what I'm looking for, I'm suggesting an enhancement of the default search engines feature. Opera has the great functionality to search different search engines directly from the location bar, for example:

'g query' gives results in google
'b query' gives results in bing
'w query' gives results in wikipedia
          etc.

Some of these, like wikipedia and amazon, are useless in their current implementation if you're not in the US.

Here, Amazon url changes depending on the VPN On/Off but Wikipedia url remains the same.

What is very weird is that adding a new search engine and setting up a keyword for it does not result in the keyword working. When you type in the keyword plus the search term, the logo for that search engine appears, but after you hit the return key, the search is sent to one of the default search engines instead.

                It works here.
