I just updated to vers 44.0.2510.857 in Mint 18 (64bit) and noticed there still is no way to export bookmarks. Anyone know if its still in the works?
Also has anyone had any luck copying/restoring the opera folder in /home/.config as a way of backing up bookmarks?
- for the record I know there is an extention to do that but I won't install it as the permissions/access are severe
- I also don't use online sync because I run multiple machines and sync makes a mess of my bookmarks

Here's what I did: Download and install Vivaldi browser. Import bookmarks from Opera. Then export from Vivaldi to an HTML file. Then import HTML file to the browser of your choice. Then uninstall Vivaldi if you want.

In Opera help you can know which files save to save bookmarks.
In windows copy / restore profile folder works fine.
Are the multiple machines different environments?

thanks for the replies...
namvtn - I have an HTML backup just to have something. The problem with HTML is that you lose the folder structure -- kind of a nuisance if you have lot of bookmarks and also inconvenient sometime (see below)
zalex - multiple machines are a mix of windows and Linux. I also experiment with OSes a lot so end up clean installing a lot. My main PC has the most bookmarks. The problem with on-line sync is mostly I get a lot of duplicates and the folder structure gets messed up which makes it harder to find stuff again... and stuff disappears. It's all workable but I sure miss being able to save a research sessions worth of bookmarks in a single file and then restore another one from a single file like we used to in Opera 12.

Funny - I just noticed this thread is in the windows side but I could swear I put it in the Linux side this morning. FWIW it's Linux I'm asking about. I'm not concerned with saving bookmarks in Windows.
Sorry for any confusion.

Despite you don't want to install extensions, with V7 Bookmarks from Vux777 you may export the bookmarks as a tree too.
Using just this extension you can manage your multiple test installations, just put the right names to know which Html Bookmarks file you use / need each time.
Another option, could be, create another Opera Sync profile and use this profile for your testings purposes.
Also it's possible to use an independent profile with that user and manage / edit sync data from your default computer but with another profile without messing your default profile.
Linux, Mac or Windows, same ways for some things.

some helpful suggestions - thx
I remembered reading that bookmark export was coming in vers 43. I found the article at:
http://www.ghacks.net/2016/11/07/opera-43-faster-bookmarks-export-and-more/
I guess bookmark export remains in the "Announced features that are not implemented yet" category. bummer.
